80's Hard Rock/Metal in TV Commercials

Anyone notice the music of 80's bands being used in TV commercials? I think the worst example is "we're not gonna take" in a commercial for birth control pills!!!!!

I did hear the same song in another commercial, but I don't remember what it was for, maybe anti-depression medicine.

Or Billy Idol used in a Comcast commercial?

The KISS Holiday Inn Express commercial?

Any others that come to mind?

Wamu is now using Twisted Sister's I Wanna Rock in one of their spots.

Wasn't Twisted Sister used for Arnold Shcwarzenaiger (SOrry for the wrong spelling!)

TGI Fridays (a restaurant chain for those of you not in North America) was using Scorpions "Rock You Like A Hurricane" a while back; and I have counted three (3) different companies using Queen songs. If you have watched any NFL for the last 20 years or so, you have to have heard Chevy use Bob Seger's "Like A Rock" about every other commercial. And I think they're using some John Cougar Mellencamp now. The TS stuff is really sad, though.

It's all about marketing, I really don't care that much if they're on the commercials. I love Queen, and when that Circuit City commercial comes on, I blast it!

Every car company must have used that one The Who song at least once in a commercial "I call it a bargain the best I ever haddddddddddddddd"

Not to mention Start me Up

I thought it was cool though when Hummer used the Who's Happy Jack cuz it's not really a well known radio staple like a lot of other songs.

I've heard people say Suicidal Tendencies - Institutionalized should be used for Pepsi commercials.

several years ago, Sony stereo used the music from Suicidals What You Need's A Friend. i remember they even misspelled the bands name in the commercial as "Suicidal Tendancies"

Van Halen was in the Nissan "Toys" commercial. That was pretty cool.

Not metal or hard rock but some recent commercial is using Bob Mould's See A Little Light. That was a long forgotten blast from the past.
I'm glad the artists can get a payday out of it though. Must be strange and cool to write a song almost twenty years ago then have it bring in money today.

I hope they got paid a whooooooooooooooooole lot for that.

I love the one for Diet Pepsi with Foreigner's Hot Blooded playing. That's freakin' hilarious. I used it for a presentation I did in January.

Dee is the sole songwriter in TS and always has been minus maybe a couple of instances. I don't think the band name has anything to do with song licensing. I could be totally off base as well as I did drink half a bottle of Scope this morning.

OK, I see what you mean. I would have thought the music would have been credited to the whole band, but maybe not.
