I see that opinion a lot on metal boards for some reason. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| @ DeathCult: have you ever heard his early material circa 1969-1974 or only his later, "successful" years from 1976 on? | |

Yeah, that's pretty much my view too. But I'm surprised how much Seger gets slagged on metal boards. OK, we all know he's not metal, but he's a great "storyteller" and writes some memorable melodies. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

The earliest I've heard is the back in '72 album. Smokin' OP's always interested me because it looked like a pack of Lucky's though. But I've never heard it. Just certain songs from different albums, it never really struck me as to go and listen to more of his music

| Listening to the Night Moves album right now, track 3, my favorite Seger song, "Fire Down Below." I never knew he got slagged that much on other boards; then again I don't frequent any other music boards but this one. I just grew up with his songs on the radio and always liked him and had his cassettes and albums in the early 80's. The beautiful thing about our board is that we all have an opinion and seem to really care about each other so no one really jumps all over someone else for not feeling the same about a particular band or artist as that person does. Deathcult, I would hope you would check out some Seger stuff, if you want to, you might really like it. Peace. | |

That's the thing I have always liked about his songs is that you are getting a story and not just a bunch of words that rhyme. I had an ex who tried to sell me Springsteen with this same argument but it just didn't work for me. I respect Bruce's talent but I just can't get into him past the radio hits like Glory Days or Born in the USA or Thunder Road. Any reccomendations?

| Yeah, I'm the first to admit that I like a lot of stuff that ain't metal and Seger is part of that. Yet I've had some heated debates on other boards about how a metalhead can still like Seger.
The answer is simple. I'm not a metalhead. I like heavy/hard music. Seger fits into the "hard music" part of that for me. Same with Springsteen.
I like what I like and I don't care what anyone else thinks...
Judging by the Is Metal a Lifestyle thread, that attitude alone makes me metal! _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Growing up and coming of age in the 70's , certain musicians hold a different place than to a listener who experiences it later on. Seger did ALOT of stuff that were soundtracks to lots of dudes lives. I have always believed that a well written song will hold the test of time, no matter the style. | |

| I like Seger a lot, just not enough to buy anything. Can't see why anyone who likes rock and roll would not be able to at least listen to his stuff. He's got some great tunes. | |

| I've been meaning to pick up some Seger albums for at least 15 years now. I never have. But I think I'm going to soon. I've liked nearly every song I've ever heard by him, including the hits. I know he's a bit country, but he's got that classic rock voice, you know? I could probably like a lot of country bands if a rock dude was singing! Anyway, if you have to choose one of these three, which would it be? It's A Mystery The Fire Inside Beautiful Loser |

| None. I'd get either: Night Moves Stranger In Town Against the Wind Or better yet, get on of the GH collections. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

Absolutely. It's the nasal vocals that really drive me nuts.

Or better yet, get on of the GH collections. Bad answer. I can only get one of those three. Now cut the crap. |
