Orphan Gypsy Aftermath

Ok just got this an wow killer melodic power, those who like this kind will like this. A brief bio follows!
In the beginning
In mid 90´s Per (guitar, vocals) and his brother Erik (drums) formed a band called Talegate and according to very poor videotapes and the first demo “Eye of the Storm” -98 one can easily say that the gloomy, dark metal that was displayed has not so much in common with today’s melodic heavy metal.

Thorn of Love
On the second demo titled “ In Shadows” -98 Talegate shows a more melodic side and the opening song “Thorn of Love” even made it to the debut album “Aftermath”. The current line-up is now Per (guitar, vocals), Erik (drums), Mikael (guitar) and Jonas (Bass, ex. Hostile) In fact, Gustaf who became keyboard player a couple of years later recorded ”In Shadows”.

Orphan Gypsy
After the recording of the second demo Per felt that he should focus on the guitar playing so the band recruited the “by Jussi Björling – inspired” vocalist Björn Ryde. At the same time Jonas got an angry letter from a German based pop group called Talegate. They said that they would sue the living crap out of the band if they did not change the name. Per, who is of a very calm nature, just said: “Let us steel ourselves a new name, what do you guys say about Orphan Gypsy, the Fates Warning song, you know?” Excellent!!

I want out
With a new singer and a brand new band name Orphan Gypsy records the third demo “The Secret Garden” -99. The semi-professional demo was actually released in 500 copies and made some good reviews in various metal magazines/fanzines in Scandinavia. Shortly after the release Björn felt that this style of music was not the kind he prefers and he leaves the band. Just a couple of months later Erik announces that he want to quit the band too. Family commitments are stated as reason.

Murder
In the summer of 2001 Woody (guitar, ex. Hostile), Richard (drums, ex. Sabaton) and Gustaf (Keyboard, ex. Turkish Carpet) joins the band and Per decides to pick up the microphone again. An almost new line-up records the fourth demo “The 12th Month” including the all time live classic “Murder (in cold December)”.

Wall of Sound
The sound on “The 12th Month” was not at all a pleasant audio experience (due to Gustaf’s 8-channel Roland vs 840). In fact, the demo was rated by several record companies because of the poor sound. The next step was, not surprisingly at all, to record the next demo in a proper studio. A new digital studio in Falun, called “Wall of Sound” with Pelle Ferner as engineer was the choice for the fifth demo. In September 2002 Orphan Gypsy records the 500-copies, self produced mini-cd “Darkland Director” a demo/cd that gave them a record deal with the Italian label Underground Symphony.

Aftermath
During eight weeks in the spring of 2003 Orphan Gypsy records the debut album “Aftermath”. Fourteen songs are rehearsed, twelve are recorded and eleven made it onto the album. The tracks are:

Darkland
Past Time Memory
Nightwalker
Thorn of Love
The Promise
Nothing More
The Aftermath
Satan’s own
Murder
Under the Sun
Silence
