That was pretty much my reaction too. it has bits and pieces of a Queen guitar vibe which dont do anything for me. _________________

But that's based only on samples. I'll return here and post a more thorough review once I've actually listened to the whole album. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

The Wolfmother connection is mostly in the vocals and the "retro" vibe both bands give off. Yea, I'd agree that Wolfmother tends to slide in and out of sludgy/doomy territory on occasion, whereas Parlor Mob pretty much sticks to bluesy rock n roll. I'm not sure I get any Queen-like vibe to any of their tunes, but I'm not as knowledgable on their material. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | Been spinning DOGS for days now.. Heard "Into the Sun" last year on music choice and looked further into these guys.. FOrgot about them and went back to them this week and I'm rly digging DOGS.. I prefer it more than And You Were A Crow..
Songs like How's it Going to Be, Hard Enough, Practice in Paitience, Take What's Mine (RATM?) and The Beginning all are very well written and keep me coming back cuz of the Haunting melodies..
Great band... | |

| I need to re-visit ...And You Were A Crow again. I enjoy Dogs very much too. One of the current crop of "retro-bands" that I still dig. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | Gotta label 'em something so the feeble-minded or lazy record buying public knows what they're in for. They don't fit in with the "modern rock" tag. They aren't "80's hair metal" and "hard rock" is too generic of an umbrella. Ask SD to define band-labelling for you. He loves it. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| They are a "rock" band. No need to lump them into any genre. Just like Priest, Maiden, Pantera, Metallica, Death, Morbid Angel.. They are all METAL bands..
Of course a label is always put on a band but in the end they are ROCK!!!

Of course a label is always put on a band but in the end they are ROCK!!! But you have to break them down. Morbid Angel is nothing like Judas Priest. If they just called it all "metal," you'd have some really pissed of music fans who wanted high-pitched wails and instead got cookie monster being mouth-raped. Parlor Mob is indeed a rock band, but when that doesn't work if you want to know what they sound like. Saying they're "retro rock" tells people it should be in that 70s hard rock vein, and it is for the most part.

I always looked at the metal world as a community. Yes genres need to be, but Metal is Metal IMO and people should respect other genres even if they don't like them. If you're bashing a METAL band that someone else doesn't like, you are in my eyes, bashing your own fav bands that are metal... I've always looked at it that way..

TONS of bands play a very similar style. And I can't say your way of metal makes much sense to me. Haha.

| Just an ep huh? I hate that format, but I guess I'll take what I can get. I like both releases I have from these guys. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

At 30 minutes, I guess it's a long EP. Some might even say it's not one.

At 30 minutes, I guess it's a long EP. Some might even say it's not one. I guess 30 minutes isn't too bad. As long as it's 30 minutes of new material. 2 or 3 new songs then some live tunes or demo versions don't cut it with me. As stated before, I understand that the ep is a more cost-effective way to get music out there and therefore becoming the format of choice these days, but as an old fart that still listens to physical cd's in the car and work, I like something that lasts longer than it takes me to drive out of my neighborhood and get on the road before it's repeating itself. I'm just old and cranky that way. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was.
