The Great Kat: Genius or Lunatic?

So, I'm sure that quite a few of you have never heard of this individual, so I'll go ahead and introduce her to those of you who are undoubtedly curious.

Katherine Thomas (AKA The Great Kat) is an English born American shred guitarist who has earned something of a name for herself for her heavy metal interpretations of classical music. Her most 'famous' album is "Beethoven On Speed", in which she plays various pieces by Ludwig von Beethoven on her Jackson Rhandy Rhodes (and a violin).

So what's the big deal about her?

The problem is that Kat herself is an EXTREMELY controversial personality. Her past and her successes have been quite questionable (for example, she claims to have graduated from the Juliard School at the top of her class). She is also known for a kind of self-promotion so utterly surreal that even Yngwie Malmsteen would think "Damn, b*tch, back off a tad". And of course there's her public persona, which is an odd mixture of an uber-patriotic, amazon dominatrix with a chip on her shoulder.

I will say, her playing certaintly IS impressive......the only problem is that her solos are kinda like Malmsteen.....you've heard one, you've heard them all.

She sucks. And to answer your question, she's neither a misunderstood genius or an egotistical hack; she's an egotistical genius and a misunderstood hack.

The Great Kat is to Neoclassical Metal what Pro Wrestling is to sports.

The Great Kat makes me fear for my life. She's a bit of a psycho. I also find her music a tad boring, although she is certainly a great player.

She's a complete and total Froot Loop. But she can wail on that gee-tar!!

Egotistical? Absolutely.

Hack? Hardly. The woman can play a mean guitar, that's for sure.

Lunatic? Perhaps. Aren't we all a bit loony? I just think she is playing a part and playing it well.

I think she and Marilyn Manson are the same person.

The album "Worship Me or Die" (1987) rocks.

Neither.

Some of her songs sounded OK and I was willing to give her a chance but it just doesn't inspire a lot of listens. I couldn't care less about her attitude or image, I just care about the music.

Her DVD is one of the worst things I have ever seen.

I don't care what anyone think but I love this woman, and in her interviews she's as hyper as a dog with a bellyfull of piss and a line of trees (thanks Chubbs !!!)

I don't know her or her music enough to make an informed judgement or have a solid opinion. So I guess this makes this a pretty pointless post.

After a night out drinking with some buds of mine last year. My friend had the bright idea of putting on her DVD for everyone at his party. Within the first 2 minutes I knew I had to get the hell out of there. The loud guitar, violins, chaotic camera work, and general cheesiness was just too much.

What I saw actually made me feel a little bad for her. Someone with her talent shouldn't have to stoop that low for a buck. Anyways, I don't remember what the other guys thought of the DVD, but I do remember a few of them thought it was a porn and they were bugging my friend to get to the good parts.

Well, that's my only, and hopefully, last experience that I have of her.

As much as I'd like to bone her, I am really terrified of her at the same time. What a nut.
