I don't like to pigeon hole him in a little cute sub genre like Doom Metal cause his one of rock n' roll's greatest guitarist's but my pick would be Bruce Franklin.

What about Victor Griffin of Place of Skulls/Pentagram? I think he's great and stuck to Doom his whole career.

Iommi is only "Doom" by default...because of Sabbath's stamp on the scene...when he was originally playing, he thought he was just "Rock"...

As for strictly Doom players...I'd say John Perez as well...w/ Bruce Franklin a close second...

I don't listen to much doom but I'd say the guy from Cathedral (Garry Jennings) is pretty awesome. Even though they aren't doom anymore, Anathema's Daniel Cavanagh did some really cool guitar work on The Silent Enigma.

Tony Iommi is the inventor so he's automatic. But next to him for me would be Gregor Mackintosh. The 1st 4 Paradise Lost album are great with his guitar work. They drifted away from the doom thing for awhile, but the latest stuff I heard is that they are back at it in the old style!
