...1996 was a pretty lean year, as this list would attest. In any other year, two tribute albums and a Manowar disc wouldn't have even made my top 20, let alone top 10

Those are all great, but it was not a great year in metal as a whole.

That's a GREAT one I completely forgot! It was a big hit in Finland, too. I was 16 when it was released and EVERYBODY loved it. Amorphis came from more extreme music but broke through with that one. My Kantele, Against Widows, Better Unborn, still are among their biggest songs.

The next 5 years I would hear those songs a million times live, as Amorphis played in every single rock festival I was at. And I was at many, many festivals. I got an overdose of Sentenced, HIM, Stratovarius too.

Anyway, I would need to insert Elegy in my top 10 somehow.

It is a great album!! I need to give it a spin as I haven't played it in awhile.
