| We all agree that 2007 will go down as one of the best years for metal. However, has anyone else noticed that power/speed metal has dominated this year. Think about is so far we have albums from Nightwish, Nocturnal Rites, Sonata Arctica, Iced Earth, Rob Rock, Helloween, Grave Digger, Primal Fear, Kamelot, Masterplan, King Diamond, Thunderstone, Metalium, Visions of Atlantis, Axel Rudi Pell (album of covers), Manowar (even though it sucks apparently), and Symphony X (power/progressive). Also, before the year is through we will have new releases by Gamma Ray and Avantasia (not a full album but still, new material). I don't know all the power metal bands out there so if I am missing something let me know. | |

| Elvenking, Astral Doors, Iron Savior, Aquaria, Mystic Prophecy, Manticora, Steel Assassin, Freedom Call, Iron Fire, At Vance, Wizard, Bloodbound (I'm sure there are others...)
YES, this has been a great year for Powermetal. Our list doesn't even include all the great stuff from other genres...

| I listen to maybe two of the bands you guys have listed, but just from the stuff I have read on this board, this year is quite the great year for power metal, and metal in general. Down with the EMO! |

I almost got a Symphorce album a while back. I was at Virgin and I could only buy six albums, and I had ten to choose from so I made a difficult choice. I will get a Symphorce album eventually but it probably won't be until next year some time.

That's a pretty bold statement right there. Yes, 2007 has been pretty good, but you should know by now that nobody on these boards all agree on anything. We're all too fiesty and opinionated for that.

| Dont forget about the new HELLOWEEN, also to be released soon. I agree, many great albums came out this year (SINNER also released a killer album) and beside many thrash metal releases, their have been many cool power metal releases this year, I TOTALY AGREE. | |

However, we're getting off topic, with this thread I am just trying to explore the power metal releases of 2007. Cheers!

| 2007 is a great year for metal! Lots of great new releases came out this year. Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Onslaught, Motorhead, Evile, Merciless Death, Desaster, and tons more released albums and the year still isn't over.
I don't follow power metal much so I don't know if it was good for it this year, but judging from what you said it sounds like a big year for it.

| My thrash collecting has been focused on older albums as of late (this year I've gotten Symphonic Extremeties, Puppet Of Destruction, Doomsday For The Deceiver, The Crusade, Testament Live In London, two Shadows Fall albums, Living Sacrifice self titled, Haunts Of Violence, Symbolic, and the Anthrax Anthology). The only new thrash I will probably have at the end of the year is Ultimatum-Into The Pit, Shadows Fall-Threads Of Life, and maybe the new Overkill (also Megadeth's United Abominations, That One Night, and Deliverance-As Above/So Below if you count them as thrash). But you are right about thrash and metal in general being good this year. However, as I see it, power still dominates the metal genres this year. | |

| Because I love Powermetal, Folk Metal and Melodic metal so much (as well as selected Thrash and Death) the combination of what has come out and what will come out in 2007 makes this my best year ever. I agree with DallasBlack! There have been great years, especially in the 80's, but man this year has just been a "perfect storm" for the bands and genres I happen to like..... | |

You must either a. not be a big fan of power meta or b. you have some very high standards (nothing wrong with either one). Heres to next year being better for you.

| This has simply been the best year for metal for me. Ever. 2004 would be my next favorite year. Then it was back in the 80s. But you are correct, 2007 has been PHENOMINAL! Of course, I'm a pretty big power metal guy. Nightwish and Sirenia have simply blown me away this year. Not to mention countless others. Nightwish's new album though simply goes down as my favorite album ... |
