I just noticed for the first time watching Phantasm 2 that the name of Sam Raimi (director of the Evil Dead series) is on a bag of cremated remains in the crematorium scene. I’m not sure if it was meant as a tribute or a jab.

I noticed that the last time I watched that flick too.

The seen where the dead kid's head sprouts legs and starts scuttling away. One of the surviving kids says "You gotta be fuckin' kiddin' me!". It's a total homage to the very same scene in John Carpenter's The Thing, not just the creature concept but even the dialogue is verbatim what is said in The Thing. I laughed out loud when I saw it because when the legs first started sprouting I was like "Oh c'mon, that's from The Thing". Then to make sure we knew where the idea came from they even used the same line of dialogue.

I’m sure I thought that when I saw “it”. Lol
I need to go back and watch again! Thanks for the reminder.

In the first Evil Dead movie, when Ash and Scotty go into the cabin's cellar, there is a movie poster for Wes Craven's The Hill Have Eyes on the wall. Apparently, Craven and Raimi would reference each others films in their own films a lot back then.

“Jason Goes to Hell” has tons of Easter Eggs. I noticed the Evil Dead’s Necronomicon book and I knew there was probably a lot more. “The Hidden” was also noticeable. And of coarse, Freddy Krueger’s glove pulls him down at the end.

In the opening of "Bride of Chucky," when Tiffany steals Chucky's doll-body from the police station evidence room, you can see a chainsaw, Jason's hockey mask and a Freddy Krueger glove in the other evidence lockers.

Not really an "Easter egg" per se but fascinating nonetheless. I'm watching all the Twilight Zone episodes from the beginning. How's this for trivia: William Shatner (Capt. Kirk), Leonard Nimoy (Spock), James Doohan (Scotty) and George Takei (Sulu) all appear in episodes of TZ.

They all must have been fans of the show. It makes perfect sense considering Star Trek was another weird Sci-Fi program.

I think it's more coincidence than anything. It's a neat bit of trivia for sure, but I too have been watching those old Twilight Zone shows and there are familiar faces in practically every episode. If you look at those 4 guys and their pre-Star Trek fame, you'll see they were in all kinds of forgettable roles. It was just another acting gig most likely. Noone could've predicted what kind of cultural impact either show would have some 60 years later.

More on topic, there are plenty of little "Easter Egg" moments and call-backs to the original SW trilogy in The Mandalorian if you're paying attention. John Favreau and Dave Filoni really did a wonderful job on that series.

There are some obvious ones I remember in Re-animator. The one I recall the most is the Talking Heads poster on the wall in Dan Cain's bedroom foreshadowing things to come.

Speaking of SW, I haven't spotted it, but I guess the Millennium falcon shows up in The Blade Runner.

That’s hilarious! “Talking Heads”.
Definitely not a Simple Minds environment. Plenty of Tears For Fears though...

I watched a piece of crap movie called "Haunted Hollywood" today which centered around a pair of lady realtors trying to sell a house that once belonged to a silent film star. In one scene, the "FOR SALE" sign on the lawn of the house has the phone number 867-5309, as in the Tommy Tutone song.
That was the only genuine laugh I got out of the whole thing

Not related to this thread, but there is a company we pick up freight from at night, and to get in their gate we have to punch in the code 8675. Used to be 5309, but they changed it about a year ago lol
