28 Years Ago Today, Savatage released Edge Of Thorns...

One of my top 5 all time records.

Criss' last album he played on and imo his best overall guitar work. Especially the solos.

Crank it today in remembrance

It's real good, but it's not my favourite 'Tage record. A lot of great tracks there like He Carves His Stone and Lights Out.

A great album.

Probably my second favorite Savatage album. All that I Bleed is one of the best songs ever.

Man, really? That's the one that made me give up on them. Hated it with a passion. Still have it, maybe I'll revisit it to see if it can change my mind.

The vocals on this one are outstanding. This was the first Savatage album i had heard, back when it was released.

Today would've been Criss' 58th birthday.

The title track is one of their best songs.

Same here but Gutter Ballet is also the first Savatage album I ever heard so I have a soft spot in my heart for it. I DO love Edge of Thorns too though.

Same here but Gutter Ballet is also the first Savatage album I ever heard so I have a soft spot in my heart for it.  I DO love Edge of Thorns too though.

Handful of Rain was my fave back in the day

This is the only Savatage album that interests me and I absolutely love it. The riffs are so heavy yet still very melodic. The song structures are sometimes straight up metal and other times quite intricate. The lyrics are fantastic. “Conversation Piece” I think is such a great lyric. The guitars on this are just stellar. And then Zac’s singing just takes it over the top. This album would rank in my top 20 of all time. It’s that good (to me).

I’ve tried other albums by them, including older stuff with Jon and newer stuff also with Zac, and none of it really interests me. Jon’s vocals are pretty bad to my ears. And Zac without Criss wasn’t the same.
