Agreed. I'm an essential worker but I have a week off and I think I would have had a much harder time if I couldn't have gone into the garden to get some air and sun on my back.

A friend of mine in Paris has been confined in his small studio for weeks now. He was telling me how hard it was. No matter how much you try to keep yourself busy, you might end up going nuts. He is only allowed one hour per day to go outside, within a specific perimeter.

Yeah quarantine would be a lot harder in an apartment. At least in a house you can move around in different rooms. Plus I have a completely different décor in my basement than I have in the main floor and there's a "home gym" down there so it's not nearly as confining as when I lived in a one bedroom apartment.

With a wife and 3 kids, I rarely have time to be bored. There’s always something I could be doing. We’ve even gotten to the point that I can’t clean up anymore stuff in the garage. Until Goodwill opens again, I can’t get rid of anything and it’s piling up.

From what I understand, Goodwill's donation drop-off is still open, just not the store.

I hope that's the case, because I'm planning to take a load of stuff from the garage there this week.

Not in PA they aren’t. There are 2 in my neck of the woods and the drop off centers are closed until further notice.

38 rolls of toilet paper delivered today.  I now have over a year's worth (more than half of which I had already stockpiled before TP became as valuable as gold as part of my tornado preparedness) so that potential "crisis" is over.  Now I actually need paper towels more than I need TP but even that's not a drastic situation yet. I haven't been out in public in 9 days now and my food and beer stashes are starting to take a major hit.  I've been putting together a grocery list these last nine days and it's already the longest list I've ever compiled.  I also have 4 prescriptions waiting for pickup so I'll probably do both sometime this week since MO is expected to hit it's "virus peak" sometime next week.

Honestly, we put some of our daughter's baby ride on toys and back yard stuff she has outgrown on the sidewalk and people just took 'em. That may work for ya bro.

Nice! You go, Toho. To the bathroom if ya need to cuz now ya have the paper!

I did a spot check on Sunday morning when I went to the supply area in the laundry room and we were at an unopened 30 rack and about a half dozen loose rolls. When we crack the 30 rack I will probably order more, The wife bought a case (12x250) of baby wipes off Amazon the other day as a back up.

I went shopping at Sam’s Club yesterday morning and it was the most stocked I’ve seen it since this all went down. I think the “panic shopping” has peaked around here. Plenty of paper towels and tp readily available. The only thing I couldn’t get was Clorox Wipes. Those are still MIA. Meats, cereal, milk etc. were all plentiful.

That's exactly what I can into on Monday when I went out on a grocery run. The Clorox wipes ,and other disinfectants, we're nowhere to be found. Now if they would just reopen the liquor stores! Laughing Neighboring counties in Ohio and West Virginia along the state border won't sell to anyone with a Pennsylvania ID.

I've seen similar here. I did my normal grocery run two mornings ago and got everything on my list, including TP! Only Clorox was scarce, but luckily that wasn't on my list.

I suspect, much like people who grew up with Great Depression and WWII austerity measures, we will all operate a little differently going forward.

I think this is a man thing. Women tend to desire the "nest" so-to-speak and protect it, while men naturally feel this deeper pressure to hunt, gather, protect the perimeter...things like that...and that's what's happening. My wife hasn't left the neighborhood in a month, and has ZERO stress. I don't have stress per se, but part of that has been alleviated by making "foraging" runs to keep the home stocked.

I tell you what, I will do my best to never have this feeling of vulnerability again. I know an absolute TRUE catastrophe (which despite the efforts of some parties to suggest, this is NOT) means we are ALL up a creek, but so far as it's within my power I will begin the process of making my family a little more "recession/depression proof" for the next round of panicked human actions. I plan (and have begun) to take measures to give my family a buffer of sorts so that if/when something like this happens again we won't have these feelings of worry. We will at least have way more time to gather ourselves and retool than this time.

Why does Trump always make everyone wait 45 minutes before he turns up to his own briefings?

Who does he think he is Axl Rose? lol!

You don't get that shade of orange out of one can. It's a complex combination of multiple shades of hair paint that takes a dedicated team of stylists to create. Hope that helps.

And then he starts it with an "ad" for GM.  WTH?  I usually watch the briefings because I like hearing from Fauchi and Birx but much like when he started a briefing off talking about drug interdiction I tuned out today.

I'm very curious to hear Trump's guidelines for easing social distancing.

Despite weirdos protesting in the streets, it still feels way to early to reopen anything.

I'm guessing it will be something along the lines of

We're gonna do great. we have been doing great social distancing, the best social distancing in the world. Other countries phone me up to ask how we are doing social distancing because we are doing so great at it, the WHO are terrible at social distancing, this is all their fault, but we are going to do great! Hope that helps.

That sounds pretty much about right. I assume he'll throw in something about the virus coming out of a lab in China so China can prove they can compete with the US. Fox News has a bit going around about that at the moment, so you know.

My favorite part about how Trump throws out conspiracy theory opinions sometimes is he'll like, say it or say half of it, but then add something like "who knows, I don't know, but I know there are good people working in those labs." So he throws out a conspiracy theory and semi cancels it, but the people who want to believe those things just hear "the president said [conspiracy theory]" and it validates it to them 100%.

I can never figure out how to post pictures, but the photo of the protesters in Ohio outside the doors to the Governor's building is some Shaun of the Dead type shit. Ha.

https://www.dispatch.com/news/20200413/gop-lawmakers-protesters-call-on-dewine-to-begin-re-opening-ohio

On a related note, I saw an ad for some luxury resort that gave me real Class War/Land of the Dead vibes. I forget the place, but the ad was basically "spend your quarantine in luxury at such and such resort".

The reality is unfortunately very grim and difficult decisions will need to be made.

A vaccine is 18 months away
It is not going to just go away on it's own
A lot more people are going to die
Some forms of social distancing are here to stay
This has already put 21 million Americans out of work, the government money cannot last forever (particularly as most of it is being used to prop up hedge funds and financial institutions with a few crumbs thrown out to the serfs)

Governments worldwide aren't spending all of this money on hospitals and ventilators because they think that we are over the worst of this. The whole lock down  has just been an exercise in slowing things down so that we don't crash healthcare systems while we figure out what to do. One of those things will be how to get the economy back up and running in the least lethal way possible or the 1930's are going to look like the good old days!

I think the orange buffoon is actually right to start looking at these things but what he shouldn't be doing is talking about it before 10,000+ New Yorkers are even in the ground.

Yeah that conspiracy theory thing that he does pisses me off too. If you have evidence then you have a duty to bring that to the world, if you don;t then that kind of stuff cannot possibly be productive. I'm not surprised though, what happened to him putting Hilary Clinton in prison for her many heinous 'crimes'?
