I just caught wind of this on Facebook. Awful...Getting old sucks and most of it has to do with those artists/pop culture figures I loved during the 80's are dying.
R.I.P. Ric Ocasek...

And you still shop at Walmart..... Ric would be ashamed....
I’m pretty sure he was happy for any store that sold his music. And almost everyone goes to Walmart because it’s convenient. Unfortunately, I’m not sure your favorite store Farmers R Us has a location here in California. Oh well, we can’t all be cool.

I bought their last album when it came out a few years ago. Was good, had that classic sound.

Not many people paid attention to "Move Like This" (2011). There was some excitement that The Cars (minus Benjamin Orr/RIP) were releasing something for the first time in almost 25 years and then the talk dissipated. I thought it was a really underrated record that was a throwback to that 81-87 period. For all of those who have never listened to this, they should. This was a solid release!

I'll have to find a copy.
Ric. Thanks for the great music. The entertaining videos and great memories.
Fun fact: The Cars' "You Might Think" won the very first Video of the Year trophy at the first MTV Video Music Awards ceremony in 1984, beating out Michael Jackson's "Thriller!"

Been spinning my vinyl copy of the debut since the news broke. The Cars were a band a hated at first, yet grew to love. I hadn't heard Moving in Stereo until adulthood, and that was the song that got me to dig deeper in their catalog. Still just a casual fan, enjoyable stuff, but man he could write a good tune. RIP.

It’s been said that almost everyone likes at least a couple Cars songs. Even people that don’t know who they are have heard them on the radio. Their music has universal appeal. Same thing with Eddie Money. They are/were American radio “feel good” music.

Yep! I used to skip Moving in Stereo until I saw Fast Times.

Bought a long sleeve CARS shirt a few months ago. Wore it to a George Thorogood club show. I got a lot of smiles. Made me see just how many people liked the Cars. I remember Van Halen just came out with their first record - as The Cars did. They both sounded so unique and unreal and new. In 4 years - 4 records.

The Cars music sales skyrocketed earlier this week once news broke about the tragic death of frontman Ric Ocasek, according to data shared by BuzzAngle Music. Album sales climbed over 3,700% with 6,000 in sales during the first two days of Ocasek's death. They have the second highest album sales for September 15th and 16th, with only The Lumineers new album topping them. The band only had 29,000 album sales this year prior to Ric death. The Cars had the most song sales of any artists for Sept 15 and 16th with an increase of 14,695% . They sold 25,000 songs in the 48 hour period, beating Post Malone (18,000), Lizzo (15,000), Taylor Swift (10,000) and Eddie Money (8,000), who passed away last week. The Cars were also the 100 most streamed artist (for audio streams) within 48 hours of Ric's passing with more than 3.5 million audio streams, an increase of 332%.

Even my local grocery store chain which used to play this godawful pop crap over the PA but recently switched to "classic" rock has been spinning a lot of The Cars lately. I'm sure it's because whatever service they subscribe to decided to up The Cars quotient but it was cool to be shopping while "Magic" and "You Might Think" played.
