I always considered this song to be a rip off of rime of the ancient mariner:

Wicker Man I noticed immediately 18 years ago when I bought the album and spun it for the first time.

I put up a thread a while back mentioning these songs having more or less the same part at the beginning before they all take different directions...

The Priest, Stryper and Maiden comparisons are exactly the same riff. But the other comparisons were not exactly the same. You can hear the slight deviations.

The opening riff of "Burnnn" from Pantera's "Power Metal" album is so close to Priest's "Freewheel Burning" I am surprised when it's not that song. Ha.

No, it proves that simple riffs are easy to think of.

It’s almost impossible to not tread over riffs already used by other bands. At this point, hard rock music has been around for 50+ something years. There’s only so many notes and chords on a guitar.

Agreed.
I however, don't think that it's all been done before. Not by a long shot!
Tons of artists have used more subtle variations of standard patterns.
The most important quality in a good song is good songwriting anyway, and not stylistic innovation.

I don't know, man. I wouldn't be the first person to say that.
None of that matters. You can point to almost anything from the last 30 years and find something that predates it and sounds a lot like it. There's nothing new under the sun.

Well, you certainly know more about songwriting, but in a conversation about Maiden stealing, a news story about them stealing certainly matters.

Eh. Not really. But...parts of the song "Power Metal" is nearly identical to Leatherwolf's "Black Knight." Although the Power Metal album came out first.

Good call, Ken. For as many times as I have listened to both songs in the last 30 years, I never made the connection.

I only own one Leatherwolf album so I am not familiar with this song. So similar to Pantera's song.

Not three songs but one and the artist stole from himself. I heard this song for the first time the other day and it's a pretty cool song with Mr. Loaf on vocals. I won't name what song it steals from because it's pretty obvious.

Get 'em all, brother! At least own the first 3, they are great!
