Subject: 220 Volt - or go for another CD ? Mon Sep 24, 2018 11:53 am
Thinking about buying Power Games CD -
H O W E V E R
or it's STORMWITCH ( Stronger than Heaven or Beauty / Beast )
or VIKING ( Man of Straw )
or SUNSTORM ( edge of tomorrow )
Which one - would you metal fans go for - Mind you, this is for October car listening - Thanks !

I'd go Viking, a riff fest of an album and the guitarist went on to join Dark Angel.

Viking! It's a classic thrash album everyone needs in their collection.

I think this is getting, or was somewhat recently re released, I am not really sure. I am pretty sure that my copy is a Russian bootleg; but it sounds great and I only paid like $8 for it.

Only familiar with 220 Volt and Stormwitch. Out of those 2, Stronger Than Heaven - their best.

Went with Viking and Power Games - and for good measure - Testament " ritual " - It'll be kinda fun to check them out in October. Oh, by the way, Liege Lord CD is like 50 bucks on Ebay. It's tough to believe there is so much metal out there that I haven't listened to yet.
This song below has a wild lyric at the end of the song : "You don't care. No you don't. When you die in Hell you burn - for metal"

My impression - with Viking - wow - They remind me of Slayer - and Meliah Rage. Sound quality on the guitars is pretty slick ! You could never be in a traffic jam on the highway listening to this cd - lol - you’d get out of the car and kill someone - The ‘ Hell is for Children ‘ cover - is a wild song to record !

That Viking is quite good. Good choice!
I also like that Testament, although some don't. It's got some good hooks and Electric Crown is a monster song.

Testament - " Ritual " - wow. From the very moment it started - I was hooked. In fact, I turned the volume up ( in car ) which is a rarity, upon first listen. The singer is absolutely fantastic on this - and of course - the lead guitar is OVER the top - George Lynch, at times. I have to - buy another CD from them - for sure.

Awesome! Glad you like it. Yeah, Chuck Billy is one of thrash's best singers and Alex Skolnick is a fantastic guitarist.
Since you enjoyed The Ritual, I'd go for Practice What You Preach next. It's my favorite. It's a little thrashier than The Ritual but it's very melodic and has some great hooks. But it's hard to go wrong with any Testament.

Interesting reading a post from a year and a half ago..... I have since bought 220 Volt's Power Games and recently, their self titled CDs. They do have a slight Stormwitch vibe - an aura about their music. The singer's voice is quite distinct. The songs are also memorable after a mere 2 listens. Still have a few more to go lol
220 Volt (1983, CBS) Powergames (1984, CBS) Mind Over Muscle (1985, CBS) Eye to Eye (1988, Epic) Lethal Illusion (1997, Empire Records) (digitally released 2009) Walking in Starlight (2014, AOR Heaven) Made in Jamtland (live) (2005, Swedmetal Records) (digitally released 2009)
I have yet to buy Sunstorm - ( Joe Lynn Turner ) - or Liege Lord.

I found two of Liege Lord's albums at a record shop in Athens a few months ago. Lucky catch .

I cannot believe it. What print? Pictures?
They've been out of print for so long. (Also Greece is infamous for bootlegs).

Oh no those aren't bootlegs. I picked up the re-releases on Urubuz records, at No Remorse shop in Athens. This is a place where you can find so many rarities.
As a matter of fact, i will be in Athens in the coming weeks to watch Agent Steel live. I will pass by No Remorse to buy me a couple of rarities .

Yes it is this one. Great material really. I have no complaints whatsoever. And it is no bootleg. I always check discogs for verification.
Why don't you come to Athens while i am there. I can show you around and you will discover some amazing shops to buy quality music .

That's the version I have too, on Urubuz Records. I wish Divebomb would reissue the LL stuff. They always do a good job.
