Here is a duplicate of what I posted in another thread:

*So I took my phone, unaware I had cranked its speaker all the way up playing a song off of it 'hands free' so to speak for a friend some time before, plugged in headphones to listen to Esper by Loudness, a remade version they did of it on an album of Loudness do-overs by the band, and for some reason, I tried to turn the volume off first rather than yank my headphones off, so now, first both, now only my right, ear has been ringing ever since Sunday night. The doctor looked, said don't worry about it unless it gets worse for at least another month, but yeah, I worry. What do you guys do about tinnitus? (Yeah this went from Loudness to tinnitus, and another thread could work, depends on how many or few answers I get)

... if fact, I'll just go ahead and start a thread in 'of unsound mind' ....*

Keep quiet for awhile, I think it will heal. No blood or anything from your ears, right? It's a short term thing. Usually it's the hours long blasting of loud heavy bass sound that damages one's hearing. Without you even noticing.

I was in the army, a gunner, so I know about sudden high air pressure sounds. A phone and headphones probably didn't do anything permanent.

How do you treat it? I recommend scotch.

Somewhat related: I used to go to concerts with no ear protection in my teenage years. And I went to a lot, like a hundred or so, and festivals and all. I got a job and the workplace doctor tested my hearing and said it's still alright but you're 25 years ahead of your age. You've got to protect your ears, don't be dumb or you can't hear a thing when you're 60.

Always wore earplugs since, and I think I've become good at picking the best sounding ones, to let in a clear balanced sound. Funny thing is, most live shows sound BETTER with earplugs because of how loud most metal bands set themselves up. Especially if you are anywhere near the stage.

Also, it can take ten days or two weeks for tinnitus to go away. I never had more than a few myself, but friends who were with me suffered longer. I think it's a warning sign, a good thing. My hearing was already worse, so mine wore off quicker.

The only thing I know is to rest your hearing. Avoid anything loud. Silence is best remedy. Boring, but best. Read books instead of listening to music for awhile. Drink scotch at home instead of going to a bar, and keep the volume on the telly down.

I too always wear earplugs at shows and I have since about 1995. This was after many club shows and days of ringing ears.

Thanks muchly for the advice folks, I'm listening currently to jazz (Frank Gambale, John Abercrombie, etc ) and Native American folk music, and trying to read, and keeping the volume down on the shows (like my current binge rewatch of Fringe) I watch too .. but today, it's been a week and my right ear is still ringing, I hope Lari is right about the ten days to two weeks in my case .....
