I hope 30 years from now we look back at 2017 and think the same way about this year.

Hall of the Mountain King is my favourite 1987 release, by the way. In this style of heavy metal, I'm not sure you can even make a better album. It's essentially perfect.

Our North Korean overlords will have banned all music and independent thought by then. What a Face

In that case, I'm calling dibs on the "Lord Humongous" name.

1987 was a great year!

Quote :
Metallica - The $5.98 E.P.: Garage Days Re-Revisited

I have a quick funny story about that one:

When "The $5.98 EP" was released in summer '87, I was spending a month in West Germany as an exchange student

Metallica was doing the Euro festival circuit that summer, and before our trip my buddy and I had read in "Circus" magazine or something that they might possibly release a "Europe-only EP" to coincide with that tour. So when we saw "$5.98" in a store in West Berlin, naturally we both thought, "There it is! This is the Europe-only thing we heard about!"

...so we each bought a copy, thinking that when we got back to the States, we'd the the most wicked underground metal dudes in school cuz we'd be the only guys with the new Metallica. We figured we were going to make a ton of cash, selling taped copies to the local posers back home for a few bucks apiece!

...imagine our surprise when we got back home and found that the EP had also been released in the U.S. while we were gone, so everybody had it. So much for our underground cred, and our get rich scheme! Laughing very hard
