I'm big time into instrumental, no matter the style. The Aristocrats aren't metal, but they are really fantastic. Steve Morse has ventured pretty darn close with The Introduction, which is one of my favorites.

Since Russian Circles has been brought up they have a new album out on Aug 5th.
Looking forward to the new Russian Circles album. Memorial took a bit to grow on me but I really like it.

I'm just going to go right ahead and blame Muckie!!
The main problem I have had with all the visual kei stuff isn't the image or the actual music but the generic, annoying vocals, so I've stumbled on this instrumental record by Versailles/Jupiter guitarist Hizaki and the thing is really, really good. It's not (to my mind at least) an exercise in technical wankery but makes great use of melody as well.
If you can get past the fact that he looks better in a dress than your girlfriend, dude can play!!

I YouTubed a few Russian Circles songs. Not bad at all. I could listen to more of that when I'm in the mood.

Nice, MG. When I first heard Russian Circles I didn't "get" 'em and I think it's cuz when I think "instrumental" my brain defaulted to Satch, Vai, etc. but the fact that I didn't "get" RS intrigued me and one day as I was jamming Living Sacrifice-Conceived In Fire the song "Into Again" came on and reminded me of what RS does so I jammed their album 'Enter' again and I have never looked back.

If I were so inclined to purchase a Russian Circles album, is there any one album that would be a good place to start? I see they have about 6 albums out.

Enter or Empros, the last two are a change of pace and more minimalist and sparse but still good

Alexandra Zerner is a Bulgarian musician I recently discovered. Her guitar playing shows a lot of Friedman / Becker influence and this album is well worth buying.

Tourniquet released their latest album " antiseptic Bloodbath" with no vocals if that counts. It's actually quite good!
