| RIP. I never could into his music for some reason but I've always seen a huge amount of creativity, inspiration, and ingenuity in his artistry.
Trying to revisit some of his stuff tonight and it looks like there's nothing on Spotify and only crap versions on youtube?
EDIT: I just remembered the Batman soundtrack. Those songs I dig.

| This certainly did come from outta nowhere. I was quite shocked when I heard the news. - tohostudios wrote:
They had a music historian on the news today who told a story I'd never heard before. Prince happened to be on a plane with The Bangles long before they ever had a hit; he was in first class and naturally The Bangles were back in coach. One of the Bangles sneaked into first class just to tell Prince what a huge fan of his they all were. After thanking her she left and Prince started writing on a napkin. He handed it to a stewardess and asked her to take it back to the Bangles. On the napkin he wrote "I wrote a song for you" and the song was "Manic Monday". They called him later for the chords and it became their first huge hit. And he's not even properly credited; the song is attributed to "Christopher" as in "Christoper Robin", one of his songwriting pseudonyms.
I thought that was a cool story. I knew he'd written songs for other artists but I had no idea he'd written that one.
I'd question the authenticity of that story. While I did know that Prince wrote it under a pseudonym (thank you VH-1's "I Love the 80's"), I had heard he wrote it for one of his girl groups like Vanity or someone, but they never recorded it, so he gave it to the Bangles instead. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. I really was hoping it wouldn't be something like this. And it may still not be. I always thought Prince was totally anti-drug so even if this story is true it might just be due to an interaction of prescriptions he was taking. Still...
http://www.tmz.com/ I never pegged Prince as an "illegal substance" kind of guy, but I could see him going the Elvis/Michael Jackson route and being "overly medicated by shady doctors". That wouldn't surprise me. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. That's pretty crass but I have to say I've been thinking a lot of the same thoughts lately. People like David Bowie and Prince are taken yet asshats like Kanye West continue to live and spread their crap. I guess the Grim Reaper is fishing. If you reeled in a Kanye West would you keep it? No. you'd go "Yuck, what the hell is this?" and throw it back. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Prince was my absolute favorite until I heard the band Bride...and my metal Evolution was complete.
I'd even say Prince helped get me into metal. His guitar work on Purple Rain, especially Let's Go Crazy is outstanding.
Prince, to me, was Queen in one man. RIP the Purple One.

| Wasn't a huge fan, but I have tons of respect for the man. He did it his way, he wasn't auto-tuned and actually played his instruments (a lot of them), he was one hell of a guitar player.
I saw the stories about the opioid OD, wouldn't surprise me - doctors prescribe it like M&M's and people get addicted quickly.

Interesting take. I don't think I can argue with that perspective. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I had the Dallas and Minnesota playoff game on today while I was lying down. It was revealed that, in honor of Prince (who was from Minnesota), the Minnesota Wild were going to enter the rink to the Prince song "1999".
The commentators said that was not exactly the best choice, considering their opponent, the Dallas Stars (who played in Minnesota from 1967 until 1993, and then moved to Dallas) won their only Stanley Cup in 1999.

| I recently read a yahoo article, who knows if it's true ... Prince had a 25 year addiction to pain killers - ? and would drop 40 grand at once - from one "doctor". They said because he WAS always in pain - due to years in stage heels and jumps off platforms - | |

I know the one on the right is the Prince "symbol" but what's the image on the left supposed to be? _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I was kinda curious about that myself. When I saw this story on tv yesterday, they showed some intern putting the papers on the seats, creating Prince's name/symbol thingy. When I did an image search this morning, that's the image that came up. I don't know what that's supposed to be. EDIT: a poorly rendered backwards version of the Wild's logo? EDIT 2: Maybe the map of Minnesota? _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | Just going through the Prince albums I own (which is quite a few!) and then looking at the ones that I haven't even heard (which is a few as well) and I'm just staggered by the guy's output! He makes Devin Townsend look like Guns & Roses!! How many of the people who are wetting themselves at the prospect of his 'hidden vault' of unreleased songs even bothered to listen to the hundreds that he did release that went practically ignored? | |

They'll be releasing new Prince music for the next 100 years. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

I'm still waiting for the deluxe edition of Purple Rain. I have like three discs or so of stuff from that album era on bootleg. At at last count I have 61 Prince albums.
