Hair Metal: TOP 10

I realize that many thrashers don't listen to hair metal, but I'm an exception. I love it. Granted, I don't like all of the bands in this genre.

When I say hair metal, I mean everything that makes up this genre of metal. All the subgenres included (sleaze metal, pop metal, commercial metal, glam metal, and even hard rock).

What are your favorite hair metal bands? Top 10 if you please. By the way, many people don't consider bands like Ratt, Dokken, and WASP to be hair metal - but I do.

what is the difference between regular hard rock & so called "hair metal"?
to me, calling bands like Britney Fox, Kiss, Motley Crue, Scorpions, Krokus, WASP, Stryper, & LA Guns "hair metal" is just insulting.

Hair metal to me was bands like Poison and Warrant. They were almost more a product of their time, rather then "real" bands/musicians. And as such, I hated it. I never considered Stryper, WASP, Twisted sister and the likes as hair metal. Just plain ol' melodic heavy metal!

Another one I love is Twisted Sister.

Kix is one of my all time favorites... I'd love to see one of their occasional "reunion" shows that they play around the Baltimore area one of these days.

Whitesnake (80's) i'll only add them because of their Hair metal look but the music is way better than that.

I've always love hair metal, metal lite, arena metal, cock rock, glam rock, sleaze metal, whatever you want to call it. Tough to narrow it down, but these would be my choices:

1- twisted sister
2- motley crue (only up til Dr. feelgood)
3- cinderella (only up til long cold winter)
4- ratt
5- britny fox
6- kix
7- dangerous toys (first two albums)
8 - saigon kick (mostly for the lizard album)
9- stryper
10- slaughter (first two albums only)

It was hard to narrow it down to only 10!

Dangerous Toys and Saigon Kick are both good calls!

Another band I like - though I realize many don't - is Winger!

Winger had such killer guitar for their time. Great hooks too!

Yeah, I love the s/t dangerous toys disc. The saigon kick lizard cd had such a great combo of a heavy guitar sound and great vocal harmonies. Too bad their other stuff isn't up to par.

I must admit that I enjoy winger as well, especially the first album. Pure pop metal genius.

I dont like the term HAIR METAL. I like to call it GLAM METAL. Anyway, my fave GLAM METAL bands would be:

I agree with KMORG, bands like RATT, KEEL, STRYPER or WASP i would not call them glam metal. Also LA GUNS, ROXX GANG, VAIN or FASTER PUSSYCAT were no glam metal bands, but SLEAZY ROCK/METAL, at least in my opinion.

This was not easy picking only 10 because even before I was a metal head I listened to a lot of this style of music (after all I'm a child of the 80's). I have this style of music on my computer as AOR/Hard Rock because I like that term better.

On a side note, there is a band that plays 80's style pop metal called Khymera some of you might want to check out. The first album has Steve Walsh on vocals and the second has Pink Cream 69's bassist Dennis Ward (trust me his vocals are awesome) which most reviews say is their best one (although I've only heard the second one).
