This setup for the Rumble match between Styles and Cena has been golden. Great promos by both guys again tonight on Smackdown Live. Sadly, I fear Cena is going to win but I bet it's going to be a great match.

Yup, Cena will win. That's the payoff; tying Flair at AJ's expense for beating Cena twice and once clean.

We got a glimpse of what a great heel Cena could be. That whole segment from the morning show where he kept referring to Styles as "some guy from Atlanta" was great. And during his promo he kept bragging about how great he is and how he ran Smackdown for 10 years. Heelish stuff to say during a promo.
I could really get behind Cena as a heel so of course it will never happen. But I think he'd be great at it.

I actually liked Cena when he was the "Dr. of Thuganomics"...

You are seriously insane.
I actually think that's when he lost most mainstream fans because we all hated the "rapper" gimmick

Man, the way he used to cut down people back then and didn't give a rat's arse is what made me like that gimmick.

And those are two great reasons why I'd get behind Cena as a heel. That's what a heel is supposed to do.

Ya know, after watching Smackdown I was thinking how uncomfortable it would be to wrestle in jeans. Luke Harper and Dean Ambrose have the worst wardrobes. They look like homeless wrestlers. Then there is also Cena's "jorts" and tennis shoes. I know I would want boots to protect my ankles. Cena used to wear wrestling gear
And something else annoying is that Raw and Smackdown cameras "shake" every time someone gets a beat down. How stupid and unprofessional it looks! But what do I know, I am an old WWF old-fogey fan!

Wow. This is quite the contrast. I knew Show had lost a lot of weight but I didn't realize Strowman had too:

Wow, they both have slimmed down. Would be a nice classic Giant match but Show has to put Braun over. Show has been jobbing for ages after Giants were always unbeatable. It would help build Stowman up.

same here, and usually, I HATE rappers, but I enjoyed Cena's promo's and him cutting down others with his crappy rhymes. They were entertaining, and THAT is what everybody tunes in for - to have some fun. In the first few years, when John Cena joined and eventually took over The Rock's role of insulting others and being entertaining at it, it was pretty good, but slowly went downhill.
Why?
Who knows... maybe it got stale? For example, I remember I used to be a fan of Rey Mysterio and eventually got sick of him, as he never came up with any new routines like Rey did in WCW. Rey only did the same old moves for many years in WWE. Possibly was he was told to only wrestle the "WWE way", as I have heard in many SHOOT interviews by wrestlers. The company rarely embraces high-flyers and innovators.
Maybe everybody got bored of Cena's rap persona because he wasn't mean enough, as say comedian Don Rickles or manager Classy Freddie Blassie?

Once he won the title for the first time and got drafted to RAW he started to eschew the rap persona and became the Super Cena we know and loathe today.

Wish I could see that.
I'm familiar with both guys; Roode from TNA and Nakamura from New Japan.
Is Roode the heel in this matchup?

Yes, although I must say I don't really like his "Glorious" gimmick. NJPW is really good and for a while there so was TNA.
One of these days, Toho, I'll have to show you pics of my fave belt that I own; the NWA World Television Championship.

Nope, I've never had WWE Network. But I get TNA and NJPW and I read wrestling blogs a lot so I'm familiar with most of what's going on in NXT.

NXT Takeover San Antonio was pretty good. Not as good as the other ones I've seen but it was good. So far overall I think the Takeovers do better than the PPV it precedes every time.

Especially the Royal Rumbles. I've never been a fan of that PPV. Just like I'm not a fan of Battle Royals. Too many entrants and too many guys who just show up stand around for a few seconds then get eliminated.

Your new avatar looks like one of the Vaudevillains. Speaking of whom, why doesn't WWE send them and a team like The Ascension back to NXT? They've obviously failed to connect with the "big league" audiences (for a variety of reasons) and I keep reading about how NXT is starting to lack talent. Take Apollo Crews with them. There are a bunch of guys that I think were brought up to the big roster either too soon or before Creative had really figured out what to do with them.

Shawn Michaels is on the RR pre show and I must say his long hair is no longer hiding his bald spot, it's gotten worse.

I like the RR cuz it usually tells a good story but I don't like regular Battle Royals. My av is Salvador Dali but he could be a Vaudvillain. I agree with you about them and The Ascension.
Shawn's bald spot is really bad. I'm a bit behind the RR, I'm barely on the first match after the preshow. Toho's fave vs Charlotte. Go Charlotte!!!!!

And dammit, as predicted, I see SuperCena defeated AJ Styles. Just more reason for me to hate him.
