Aerosmith guitarist Brad and vocalist Derek plan first album together since 1981

Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford has confirmed that he and singer Derek St. Holmes have reunited and are planning their second album together.

Whitford left Steven Tyler and co in 1981 to work on Whitford-St. Holmes’ debut album, which was released the same year.

Now they’ve teamed up again and are joined by Nashville bassist Charlie Anderson and Tesla drummer Troy Luccketta.

Whitford tells Aero 101: “Derek and I have always been friends. We started writing a bunch of stuff and we started building a band.

“The next thing we did was go in the studio and we cut nine tracks in two days.”

He says the album is almost done but they'll put the finishing touches on it once Aerosmith’s current tour ends early next month. He hopes to tour the project across the US in November.

The little I heard from their first album sounds kinda dated and lame now, but I'd be interested to hear what these 2 old farts can come up with some 35 years later. I've always thought Brad was pretty underrated as a guitarist. He makes a great team with Joe, but always seemed a little overshadowed by him.

This is one of the better tunes from their debut...

Derek St. Holmes can still sing too. Here he is in 2014...

I have the album, its a bit too pedestrian for my taste. I am huge Aerosmith fan, which made this album that much more disappointing

AEROSMITH guitarist Brad Whitford is working on his second album with Derek St. Holmes, the voice of such early TED NUGENT songs as "Stranglehold" and "Dog Eat Dog". The record is slated for an early 2016 release, with a new single coming soon.

WHITFORD ST. HOLMES is gearing up for a fall tour, kicking off November 12 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and wrapping up November 22 in New Hope, Pennsylvania.

WHITFORD ST. HOLMES released its debut self-titled record in 1981. The album was followed by a tour, but soon after Whitford returned to AEROSMITH and St. Holmes went to work again with TED NUGENT.

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Whitford and St. Holmes reconnected after Whitford moved to Nashville, where St. Holmes lives.

WHITFORD ST. HOLMES tour dates:

Nov. 12 - Milwaukee, WI - Potawatomi Casino
Nov. 13 - Westland, MI - The Token Lounge
Nov. 14 - Chicago, IL - Reggies
Nov. 15 - St Charles, IL - Arcada Theatre
Nov. 17 - Boston, MA - WIlbur Theatre
Nov. 18 - NYC, NY - BB Kings
Nov. 19 - Ridgefield, CT - Ridgefield Playhouse
Nov. 20 - Londonberry, NH - Tupelo Music Hall
Nov. 21 - Amityville, NY - The Revolution
Nov. 22 - New Hope, PA - Havana New Hope

I'd love to go to that New Hope show. Maybe I can convince the wife to give me an early Christmas present. santa

Wow. I just got done watching about 7 clips of St.Holmes - he's still got it - hot fun stuff - I got to revisit some of those Nugent releases - I have Weekend Warriors - but I was raised on him thanks to my older brothers - remember all those riffs and words - from Jr. High 7th grade till High school -
then Ozzy took over with Rhodes -
Nugent and Aerosmith were SO HUGE in 74 - 78.

While not exactly clear, I'm assuming the 2nd bonus disc is re-records of their original 1981 album? Also, so far, I can only find this on itunes with a June 3rd release date. No signs of an actual cd release yet.

EDIT: The bonus 2nd disc may be the original Whitford/St. Holmes album, just remastered.
