I've heard of some CD's released in the 80s succumbing to bit rot, but i've never heard of it happening with modern CDs.

All of my old cds which date back to the early 90s play well.

Never encountered any rot issues. Could it be caused by bad storage?

I've only had issues with CDRs, not regular CDs. As far as I'm aware, there is no chemical breakdown on traditional CDs because the music is laser-etched into the reflective layer, whereas with a CDR it is burned into a chemical layer.

I may not be remembering it all correctly, though. Either way, I have had too many CDRs shit the bed; I'll never permanently store anything on them. I hate it when I order an album from a band and I get a CDR. Suuuuuucks!

I've seen this twice-both cds were from Atlantic Records-Horrorscope and Hall of the Mountain King.

Hasn't happened to me.

I hope I go way before my CDs do.
