Hanoi Rocks' 1984 album 'Two Steps From The Move', the band's final release prior to the death of drummer Razzle, has been remastered through Rock Candy Records. Containing the original album, this 'Special Deluxe Collector's Edition' also includes eleven bonus tracks, fully remastered sound, 20 page full color booklet, new interview with frontman Mike Monroe, 3,400 word essay, rare photos, and enhanced artwork. The two disc set can be purchased now at www.rockcandyrecords.com.
Back in the early '80s, when Hanoi Rocks moved lock stock and barrel from Finland to London, the streets were on fire with possibilities. Looking like an explosion in a paint factory and sounding like a devilish mash-up of the Rolling Stones jamming with the Sweet, it's fair to say that they made a unique impression. With an anything can happen and it probably will vibe, the band's ferocious onstage performances were legendary, establishing them as the front runners of a movement that looked like it would instantaneously blast them to success.
Signed to CBS records and teamed up with renowned producer Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, KISS) 'Two Steps From The Move' was cut in the frenetic environs of New York City, polished in Toronto and completed in London. It was hailed as a masterpiece, bringing together all the hopes and promises of a band perfectly poised to assume complete control of the scene. However, during their American tour, Mike Monroe broke his ankle, forcing the group to postpone dates. Then, while Monroe was recouperating, on December 8th, 1984, the band's British drummer Nicholas 'Razzle' Dingley was tragically killed in a Los Angeles automobile accident with Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil in the driving seat.
Loaded with an incredible selection of songs, 'Two Steps From The Move' found Hanoi Rocks focussing on as much mayhem as humanly possible with a penchant for cheeky lyrics and catchy melodies. Tracks such as "Don't You Ever Leave Me", "Boulevard Of Broken Dreams", "Up Around The Bend" and "Boiler (Me Boiler 'N' Me)" defined their unique brand of swashbuckling bravado perfectly.

Not sure how this news slipped past me. While I'm getting a little tired of all the recent record label re-hashing of old material, this album always had a certain charm to it. I think I have a few of those bonus tracks already, but this might be a future purchase for me.

I will get this one. I don't have this album in any format so this will fill that void nicely.

Hmmmm, interesting. I wouldn't have pegged you as a Hanoi fan. Thought they'd be too glammy for you. Cool.

Love Hanoi, the image was deceptive. Worth getting just for Magic Carpet Ride.

I have an mp3 of Michael Monroe's version with Slash from the Coneheads soundtrack...
Never heard Hanoi's take on it.

I had three of their albums many moons ago. I cannot even remember the titles - but I do know that they were on Uzi Suicide. Apparently Axl pushed for them to be on the label.

Yea, I have that one too. Those Japanese bonus tracks and the BBC stuff would be nice to have though.

Yea, I don't love it either, but it's a neat little rarity to have. Being a GnR fanboy, I had to have it.

That's correct.
As I understand it, Hanoi had a few albums out that were only available in the States as imports. They finally attracted a big label to sign them and Two Steps From The Move was going to be the album that broke the band in the US, right in the midst of the LA glam scene. Then Razzle done got killed and de-railed everything. Thanks alot, Vince.
Fast forward a couple years and GnR is now huge, so Axl uses his newfound power to get all the old Hanoi albums re-released through the band's Uzi Suicide label, a division of Geffen.

Wow, that's a completely different song!! Same title, but that's not the Steppenwolf version. Cool.

I have this album on vinyl; another one of the albums I won when I was living in TN. Funny thing is the only track I really remember is "Up Around The Bend". I do have a bunch of Michael Monroe's solo stuff on CD though.

Well slap my ass and call me Spanky!! I just checked my disc and those tracks ARE there. Shows you how much I listen to that album. Guess I won't be rushing to get this re-issue after all.
Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a Hanoi Rocks playlist to assemble.

I was thinking about buying this CD. Had the record, as a kid, when it first came out. I remember the entire thing 'having a charm' about it too - lol The first two songs especially. Rolling Stones mashed with Sweet - good description. Never knew they were from Finland.

Well, finally bought their CD. Very fun listen. I thought of a KIX vibe - here and there. Also - early 80's pop MTV sound too. Very unique. Fascinating composition structures.
The band have been cited as a major influence in the glam metal genre for bands such as Guns N' Roses, Skid Row and Poison. Alice in Chains also often played Hanoi Rocks' "Taxi Driver" live in their early days.
Truly sad that their drummer RAZZLE died at age 24....Dec. 1984....in the Redondo Beach area.
Vince Neil wrote a check for $2.5 million, to the courts, so he only ever served 19 days - of a 30 day sentence - for the reckless death.
In late 2008 an autobiography titled All Those Wasted Years was released. It mainly covered Hanoi Rocks' career in the 1980s and included rare photos of the band and its members and new interviews with Monroe, McCoy, Nasty Suicide, Gyp Casino, Seppo Vesterinen, Richard Bishop and countless others.
Original vocalist Michael Monroe and guitarist Andy McCoy reunited in 2001 - with a new lineup that lasted until 2009.
