Metallica: Ride/Master/Justice - Battle of Side 1: Part 4

Okay, now it's time for the power ballad portion of our album...Metalli-ballad time!  Which is your favorite Stairway To Heaven derived track?

This was a tough one, all three songs are favorites of mine. However, I went with Fade To Black. It was the last song ever played on my favorite radio station in middle/high school, 99.1 Z-Rock.

One, hands down. My favourite Metallica song. Period.

I can't quite describe what the song "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" does to me. It's a brilliant piece of emotional music. I've gone back and forth regarding Sanitarium or Master being my favorite Metallica song of all time and both are easily in the top 5. I have almost 200 live recordings of this song and this song always is the one of the first songs I listen to with various boots. This is probably my favorite live version, which funny enough can/could be found on the "One" single. It's live from Dallas, TX 1989.

Sanitarium for me!

Really tough but I went with One because it was the first Metallica song I ever heard. I didn't like it at the time either. Mostly because of how disturbing the video was to me at the time. Eventually I got over it and ended up watching the movie Johnny Got His Gun.

The other 2 songs are very important as well but One brought Metallica to the mainstream.

'Fade to Black' for me. Always dug the suicidal depressing vibe of it.

One with Fade to Black a very close second.

3 out my 4 choices are from side one of Ride The Lightning.

One. Love that song!

I vote One. It was one of the songs that got me into metal. Also, the greatest thrash metal music video of all time (not that there were many good ones to choose from.)

Fade to Black is a close second, even though in recent years it has become the go-to song for Emo girls to post all over their Facebook when they have a bad day.

And the weakest link is Welcome Home (Sanitarium). When I'm listening to MoP in it's entirety, all enthusiasm for this song is killed after listening to The Thing That Should Not Be. Seriously, f**k that song.

When is side 2 coming up?

I'm digging this set of polls.

Side Two doesn't really line up the same, so I'm not really sure how to attack it from that angle. Especially since Justice has 5 songs in the second half instead of 4.

Just do golden age Maiden. From "Beast" to Somewhere in Time. Just drop Quest for Fire, and they all have 8 tracks. And maybe re-arrange the order to make them more comparable.
