| Judas Priest and the Foo Fighters are two of the 43 new releases I've picked up this year that are topping the list. Ace Frehley's too.
Sadly, there has been way more releases this year that have failed to live up to my expectations. There have also been a few that redeemed themselves after some initial disappointments too. So it kinda balances things out I guess. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| Since I never blind purchase anything these days there are no major disappointments. If something doesn't REALLY trip my trigger it doesn't get purchased. |

I didn't do much blind purchasing this year. Most of the disappointment has come from tried and true bands that I like but failed to deliver. Take Tesla for example. I've been a fan ever since I saw them on MTV back in the day. Up until I few months ago, I'd argue that they've never released a bad album ever. When I heard a new one was on the horizon, it was a no-brainer. I would get it the minute it was out. I didn't need to hear a note. Then *BLAM-O*. Simplicity. Is it bad? Not really. It's got all the makings of a Tesla album. But it didn't live up to the quality of past releases and didn't come near the expectations of what I wanted it to be. Perhaps that opinion will change over time, but it's gonna be towards the bottom of the pile for now when I got me a hankering for some Tesla. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. I think Tesla could've been the most disappointing of the bunch. But Priest, Accept, and Overkill were all underwhelming to me--which I didn't expect at all. In fact, after such an onslaught of "meh," I expected the Exodus album to be the same way--what a refreshing feeling to hear something with energy.

I have some theories as to why, and it's definitely the weakest of the Tornillo Trilogy. My review of it has just been sitting there because I was hoping my opinion would change with repeated listens, but so far it hasn't.

It almost seems dialed in, and borrows heavily from the first two. I tried listening to it many times and it never clicked the way those first two did. Like MG said, the cracks are starting to show.

It just sounds, I dunno, tired or phoned-in. The first album with Mark, they had something to prove. And it worked. The 2nd album, they stuck with a successful format. More of the same, sure, but it worked. This 3rd one just sounds like "been there, done that". _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. | Guess I don't care for "Major releases" and stuck to what was still "underground metal". The past 2 years did a lot more "blind purchasing" and it was a 50/50 split if I liked it or loved it. So far this way, nothing I hated, (as I usually ordered what I heard of / read of was supposed to be really good, or just an instinct I would like it based on art/band name/song titles, like I did when I was a teenager).
Have almost nothing mentioned by others in this thread, except , ordered and still waiting for - Ranger - Shock Skull Skull Fist - Chasing The Dream
bought - Midnight Malice - Proving Grounds
and still waiting from the band a replacement copy for a warped Tokyo Blade - Thousand Men Strong vinyl

| The bands that definitely delivered are: wolf, sanctuary, cavalera conspiracy, exodus and riot.
judas priest became a grower, only after several listens.
some bands left me kind of "meh" and I did not revisit their albums a lot. Accept and Overkill are the perfect incarnation.
I am still getting into grave digger so I need more time to properly assess it.

It's got a neat mix, the guitars are out front and the drums not too loud. I wouldn't pair it up with Fabulous Disaster but it still is a quality Souza title.

If it's the two singles they've posted then you're in for a treat. Those two numbers are by-the-numbers compared to the rest of the album. Songs like BTK and Body Harvest are insane and brutal. My only complaint with the album is some of the songs are overlong with riffs repeating themselves a bit too often. Could've used some trimming.

Yes, I realize how pathetic that is. My mettle ist not tr00. Don't feel bad I only picked up 3.Exodus,Overkill and Sanctuary.
I've been buying older stuff this year. Of the 2014 releases I bought, probably only two would be deemed "major" ones - Iced Earth and Sabaton. Although I would probably have had the new Threshold by now if there hadn't been a postal strike for the past few months, which has resulted in me holding off on ordering things from overseas. I did also get the new U2 album, but it's not as though I bought that...
