A superb force in character-driven filmmaking and theater. What a loss.

Familiar with alot of his work but the only thing I've seen of his was Wolf and I hate that film (mostly because of my dislike for Nicholson)

I only saw half of Wolf and it was OK, a little different at least. I need to finish it someday. Here's a list of my favorite Nichols films:

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woof?
The Graduate
Catch-22
Carnal Knowledge
Silkwood
Biloxi Blues
Working Girl (my favorite)
The Birdcage
Primary Colors

Postcards from the Edge is another one that I haven't finished, and the way everyone has talked about Charlie Wilson's War makes me scratch my head as to why I haven't checked it out yet.

Charlie Wilson's War is fantastic (Aaron Sorkin's brilliant script gets some of that credit).

Nichols had a great career. What I loved about his movies is that they were very accessible...while never having to dumb themselves down to achieve it. He was an "actor's director".

Just found out he was 83. Had no idea he was that old.

I wasn't really familiar with the name, but when I saw the movies he directed, I see that I was a fan of quite a few of them. So I guess I was a bigger fan of his work than I knew.

The Graduate always struck a chord with me. The first time I saw it, I was fresh out of college myself and coincidentally, "dating" an older woman. Not "Mrs. Robinson-old", but a good 8 or 9 years older than myself at the time.
