This one cut pretty deep. More than a few of his roles played heavily in my childhood. Selfishly, it feels like a chunk of my childhood was cut out.

Still, for all the grim and dark about this, even given the way he went out, he left one hell of a wake behind him and a lot of great work that will go on without him. That's saying something.

His ability to riff on random subjects thrown to him by an audience was one of the most ingenious comedic talents I've ever seen. I didn't really appreciate his acting ability after Good Morning Viet Nam because that was basically his standup routine. But then came stuff like Awakenings, Dead Poet Society and Fisher King and I realized how truly talented the guy was.

I was absolutely gobsmacked when I heard the news on the radio at work. Such a tragic end for one who was so funny and full of energy.

Just forming an opinion from his work you'd never think he battled addiction and depression most of his life. I always loved watching his stand-up routines, as I'd nearly be in tears from laughing so hard.

As Uncle said, maybe a loss like this can finally kickstart a discussion on the need for better mental health programs. R.I.P. Mr. Williams. Sad

Very shocking and sad news. He brought many a laugh to this guuy over the years. And I really appreciated his movie rolls when he played it "straight", like 'Awakenings'.

He will be missed.

I own one of his darker themed movies on DVD called "Final Cut" (2004).
A science fiction film about a computer chip implanted before birth to record every thought.
The way technology advances, seems possible.
Some of what we seen as fiction in the past, has become reality, for example on Star Trek in the 1960s,(communicators are now cellphones).

You want to see a dark comedy with Robin Williams? Check out 'World's Greatest Dad'. Although the subject matter hits a little too close to home for the time being. Really good black comedy though.

That's one of his best straight roles. Very good movie with even more irony today.

I will see that, never heard of it before.

New comment about his death.
Not the first time Prozac-type medication has been blamed for tragic deaths.

I haven't seen another of my favorite Robin Williams movies mentioned yet.  One Hour Photo.

This movie is quietly disturbing in the vein of a Hitchcock film and it's completely because of RW's performance.

The source said, "Robin had not relapsed and wasn't drinking before going to Hazelden. The decision was made for Robin to go to Hazelden as a last-ditch effort to get him the help he needed for a very deep depression he had fallen into."

The source adds that "It wasn't one thing that sent Robin spiraling back into the depression, but a compilation of factors." Among them was the cancellation of The Crazy Ones and financial pressures.

Susan had been a strong voice of support and tried to help, including visiting him during his time in the facility. The source notes, "The one constant ray of light in his life, was his third wife, Susan. He felt like he was being a burden to Susan, and told her he had lost the will to live. She did everything to help him face the depression."

ORIGINAL: Robin Williams' wife Susan revealed today that the comedian was in the the early stages of Parkinson's Disease at the time of his passing. Susan issued the statement, revealing that Williams maintained his sobriety to the end and "struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson's Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly."

One thing I thought was hilarious that Robin Williams once said was after George W. Bush's run as President of the United States ended. He thanked him for eight years of fantastic comedy material. Laughing

Robin Williams DVDs and Blu Rays are flying off the shelves at Amazon. I picked quite a number of them in the recent week. Mostly Mrs. Doubtfire, Dead Poet's Society, Insomnia, and Good Will Hunting.

I think Insomnia is a very good film.

I agree, it was well done. I could only imagine what constant daylight would do to a man's psyche.

I saw Fisher King for the first time last night. An exceptional film, and the best work I've ever seen from Robin. It was a really bittersweet viewing.
