Eh, he's harmless, but I have a feeling he'll be around for a long, long time, in many forms.

Naw, Chrome didn't really have the brilliance enough to string together various styles of rhetoric and thus confuse the reader as to his true personality. ze is more like Painkiller lost in translation, and his more recent incarnation plays it safe yet rides the edge of irreverence.

I think "Lady Gaga" per se is much more of a JOKE than anything else , the music is awful , but then ... on the videos above we can see that she´s actually talented as a singer and as piano player , but she just decided to sell out to the poppy shite and forget about playing "real" music ...

I hate to say this, but I think there are few exceptions on this board or in general to this idea.
If someone offered me STUPID money to dress like a moron and perform crap music, I would do it. The reason? If I managed my time and money right, I could ride the wave and gather up some resources which would then buy me the luxury of being able to do whatever the hell I wanted to afterwards.
When you look at musicians that lose credibility or had none to start with, it's because they handcuff themselves to the deck rail of a sinking ship and act like it was the plan all along (see every major stab at commercial success by most underground bands who failed at it). Now, if it was treated as a day job like half of the jobbing musicians in rock, motown, etc. I don't think there'd be nearly the level of hard feeling about it.
Be as good as you want, but that doesn't attract attention or pay bills. You need some cash to indulge yourself and that gets forgotten in all the talk of "artistic integrity" that goes around. I don't mind people doing Kickstarters or having some other gig (*cough*TSO*cough*) that I don't really respect if it means they end up having the freedom to do stuff that DOES mean something to them.
Does that mean Gaga is going to turn out to be the next Tori Amos or Ann Wilson? Probably not. I just wouldn't call her out for reaching for the brass ring. If she misses out on the opportunity to use it towards something more substantial, that's her loss.

But what is "real" music? What makes one style of music any better than another?
There's a skill in writing a good pop song. Sure, it's a different skill from crafting a hard-rocking epic, but it's a skill nonetheless.
Of course there's bad pop music, but every genre has its share of bad offerings. Just because you don't like a particular type of music doesn't necessarily mean that the artists playing it aren't talented and while may have jumped on a bandwagon, others are genuinely doing what they actually want to do

It´s my "personal humble opinion" that music is a noble form of art intended to be entertainment and "ART" itself and not a way to become a millionary ... when your music has the "main" function to turn you into someone "rich and famous" I don´t see it as "genuine / true" art . SAME (no offense intended , my opinion) can be applied to music used ONLY as a tool for "religious proselytism". I am NOT saying that music can´t be used as a way to spread messages / ideas of any form ( including religious ideas and messages , and this includes religious proselitism ) but the ART / entertainment factor MUST come first. If the love for the music is not there , OR if the love for the money is more important OR if the "ministry" is more "important" than the passion , the feeling , the love , the art it´s not "true music" for me. Well I know I must stop the whole "belief" arguing here or I´ll be condemned to outer space again , but you get my point
Music is art , love , feeling , passion , beauty , pleasure and entertainment , but for me there are actual "degrees" of sincerity into music ... there´s music that´s overtly commercial , intentionally made to sell millions of records and nothing more, there´s music that somehow manage to unite "useful and pleasent" at once ( we call this "unir o útil ao agradável" here ) like Scorpions for example ... they sound somewhat "commercial" and polished in albums like "Savage Amusement" but the passion is still there , its good music for me still ...

When I mention "gather togheter" (sorry my english is still far from being top notch) "useful and pleasent" I think that its actually possible for someone to make a living , earn money while producing music the artist actually enjoy. Iron Maiden for example , they have NEVER intended to be sucesfully "commercial" it was ... a consequence of their genuine work , talent and passion for Heavy Metal ... Some bands know how to unite / get togheter "useful and pleasent" (unir o útil ao agradável) so they produce / compose the music of their liking, yet they have the occasional "radio friendly ballad" because they need to pay their bills , but they don´t go deep into the whole commercial poppy shit.

It's all subjective..... what is art and what is music.
It's isn't always the fault of the musician or the artist whether or not they make a lot of money "expressing" themselves. I doubt there many artists or musicians who create things and don't care if they make money with it. The ones that do usually hold either and/or both disciplines as a hobby on the side from what they regularly do.

There's also a lot to be said for music not being a "one trick pony." That goes for any art form, really.
I mean, the same critique about focusing on money or ministry could be leveled at someone who just writes music about banging chicks and partying. Seriously, who lives like that? It's a really limited view of human beings - ANY human beings.
It can be fun, but by the argument being made about music that's "just" made to make money or "just" made to push a religious argument, ANY music that is "just" about one thing - even if that one thing is "having fun making music" is flawed in that way.
That make sense?
My point is, allowances should be made. I think Lady Gaga makes repetitive, gimmicky shlock and I really have about as much desire to listen to it as I do setting myself on fire or sleeping with someone who has an infectious skin disease. Does that mean it shouldn't exist? No. However, play it in my car at great risk to your own physical being.

I personally like Lady Gaga is a very talented artist, you don't know what truly awful music is until you've listened to One Direction or Justin Bieber.

I would agree with this; her music isn't my cup o tea but it does have dimensions to it, unlike most of the pop heard these days.
