Best that I can figure from what I've read is that CC had been working on some solo recordings for 4 or 5 years prior. Then John Kalodner (sp?) started up Portrait Records and offered him a deal. They originally called the group The Stepmothers, but had to change it for legal purposes (someone else had the name), thus Samantha 7.
So perhaps you got a CC demo?
Sad trivia: Although not on the recording, guitarist Ty Longley played some live gigs with Samantha 7, prior to becoming the guitarist in Great White, who tragically perished in the night club fire.
