I've really developed an interest in this band since I saw them live yesterday; really gave me a chance to dig into their music as in all honesty I usually just cant be bothered to listen to some epic length 10-15 minute long song. For those who don't know, Deafheaven is for the majority a black metal band, although through their music are a blend of other genres which I'd probably point to mostly being post-hardcore and sheogaze. They seem to get lumped in with Liturgy as a "hipster" black metal band because they do things a little different and have gained a good bit of popularity not only outside of the realm of black metal, but outside of metal entirely. Anyway, opinions, things like that, yadda yadda yadda.

I'm not crazy about only using extreme vocals over this particular kind of drone. I think a balance of clean and harsh vocals would bring out the instrumental arrangement a little more. Something like Alcest for example.

I only have Roads to Judah, but I really like it. I need to get Sunbather soon. That Dream House song you posted was really good.

My brother loaned me his copy of this to check out. It is quite a good album but I think it's still somewhat overhyped.

Impressive, I think that it's still growing on me and I really liked it from the start. I really couldn't care less about the hype and all of the 'hipster' nonsense just bores me. A very good record is a very good record full stop.

I'm a pretty big fan of this album. I heard all the hype and ignored it for a while until I stumbled upon "Vertigo" on youtube. Changed my mind instantly; the drumming I especially like.
And yeah, who gives a shit if it's 'hipster' black metal, it's great.
