RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman

One of my favorites is gone. This is a shame as I would love to see so much more with him. Makes his performance in Before the Devil Knows You're Dead all the more haunting and ironic. RIP.

Oh MAN, that is crushing, one of my absolute favorite actors. I just watched him in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire a couple weeks ago.

This is a major loss.

This is sucks, I was a huge fan of his work

This is the first I've heard of this!!! I just saw a preview for the movie "The Master" w/Hoffman last night while previewing one of four rentals I picked up. I thought to myself this guy is one of the best of my generation; I need to see this next. Wow, this news absolutely sucks!!!

He was so great in every role he had. A real loss. I first noticed him in Twister. Kind of a wacky side-kick role but he pulled it off enough to stand out and make me want to see more of him. He completely stole Charlie Wilson's War. His versatility was such that I had no earthly idea he was 46 (at times I would have said older, other times younger depending on what he was playing). RIP

His death was shocking. I was not aware of his past/current problems.

I understand that his footage has been shot for the the next Hunger Games film (being part 1), but part 2 is still in development. My wife tells me his character isn't necessarily essential to the plot, but I'm curious as to how they'll handle this.

Bummer. He was excellent in every movie I seen of him, my favourites were ALMOST FAMOUS, and him as the rich, powerful, evil guy in Mission: Impossible III.

He didn't seem like the drugtaking/heroin-type to me, never knew about his past as he was one of the best serious actors this last decade.
It is said he lost his wife recently, maybe that was partly to blame, he was hurting too much and wanted to relieve it.

Not someone that would immediately come to mind, but for anyone out there that watches lots of movies, they must have seen Hoffman in quite a few like I did

I don't think he was married. Everything I read, they talked about a "longtime partner" named Mimi Something. He did have 3 kids with her though, which surprised me. I kinda thought he was gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I first saw him in Boogie Nights and he kind of stole the show in a very good film with a relatively small role. A big talent that will be missed but heroin has no respect for talent. Apparently he had been clean for over 20 years and had relapsed in the last couple of years which is the kind of news that always hits me hard.

With the drug habit, that's why I said how much more profound his performance as a drug addict in Sidney Lumet's Before the Devil Knows Your Dead is. Kind of haunting, in fact.

That is the brutal nature of the disease of addiction it can't be won just overcome in a constant battle. Doubly sad when there are young children left fatherless. I hadn't even realized that was him in Boogie Nights till reading his obituary. Amazing the roles he morphed into.

sad, he was a great actor. He intruduced a new word to my vocabulary in the movie "Along Came Polly": I sharted.
