| In Finland, I'd say new CDs are usually around €20 (€19,95!) in the shop. That's about $27. You save one or two euros if you order online. But then you pay shipping, so whatever.
It's not so bad because about fifteen years ago I remember new CDs were often €24! (~$33) Mid-price is €9.95-€11.95

| Here in Pittsburgh I can get used vinyl for $5 or cheaper. New vinyl costs about the same as online - $20-40 or so. New CDs are $10-$15.
The only thing I usually buy locally is used vinyl. Everything else I get online.

| There is some cheap used vinyl to be found here but for the most part the stores KNOW how much albums are worth and they price accordingly. Want a used copy of a Van Halen album? You can find that for $1. Want a used copy of a King Crimson album? Better bring $50 with you.

| I have no idea what CDs go for in brick and mortar stores here. I haven't bought a CD from a physical store in years. Plus even when I did, I almost always bought them used. What sucks is that because of the decline of CDs, most of the used places have dried up. When I first moved here, my favorite store (called Vintage Vinyl) used to have a HUGE used CD section and frequently had the promo copies of just released CDs for around $4. Last time I was there about 2 years ago they only had a few bins of used CDs and most looked like they'd been sitting there for years. They did have a HUGE vinyl section though. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

That sucks! I do my used vinyl shopping here: http://www.jerrysrecords.com/aboutus.htm The highest price I have seen is $9 for a mint double album. Single vinyl albums are $4-5. These are all generally NM to VG+ with lots of Mint records floating around. They stock 1 million 12" and 12" singles, 1 million 45s and 20,000 78s! They have millions more in a warehouse. Jerry told me that he bought giant collections from radio stations, estates, etc... for nothing during the 90s and that's why he has insane amounts of stock. You wouldn't believe all the white label and gold stomp promos he has. It's unbelievable. If you are ever looking for old vinyl and can't find it, hit me up and I'll take a look in Jerry's.

| Progressive Rock albums are very expensive usually, sometimes you can find the more common titles cheap, but if you're talking Camel or Gentle Giant or something like that it's going to start around $15 and go as high as $35 depending on what pressing, etc. |

| I haven't bought a CD from a store for some time now, but in South Africa I think the popular stuff tends to go for about R120-R150, which is around $11-$14. If it's something not so mainstream like metal or prog then it can go for over R200 (~$18), and the selection there is rather limited. | |

| In Australia, the recommended price for new albums has been at $29.95 for about twenty years from a record store. Prices obviously vary with older albums, pop albums or warehouse-type stores (like JB Hi-Fi), with a price point At $19.95 (which was the standard 'on sale' price for years, though with CDs dying off, it's often a starting point for popular artists today). One of many reasons that I mostly buy online from overseas! I don't have any used stores within 400 kms of where I live, which is a bummer. From what I understand, our CD prices are among the highest in the world. | |

| Over the last year or so, I've noticed that Best Buy has allot of their single disc releases priced at $9.99 or lower. Of course, their selection is getting smaller and smaller every day, so good luck finding anything good. I still find an occasional gem now & then.
I'm assuming it's a move to sell off their remaining supply and eventually do away with selling the format altogether. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

| I usually pay between $1 and $8 for a used record...never paid more than $10 and that includes my Beatles albums.
Used CDs depend on rarity of the title, but usually between $1 and $8 as well. _________________ FINAL SIGN

30 Australian dollars is about the same as 20 euros, so it's not that different from here. From what I understand Japan has the highest prices, around 3,000 yen or about $29 (USD).

I think I've said this before but I've lived in this area my entire life and know exactly where that store is (been by it many times) but have never been to it.

Used CDs depend on rarity of the title, but usually between $1 and $8 as well. Most of the albums you've posted recently are very common and easy to find pretty much anywhere in the country. Big selling, commercial albums were pressed in the millions making them easy to locate used even now. Later pressings and reissues are also much cheaper, go look for a first press of those Beatles records and you're liable to find a very different financial reality. |
