The Scorpions' recent appearance on MTV Europe's "Unplugged," filmed at an open-air theater in Athens, Greece - will be released as a CD/DVD package via Sony on January 21st in the U.S. (Yeah, I know. Who knew that "MTV Unplugged" was still a thing? )
Set list looks pretty sweet....
Hype: Hurricanes don’t need amps, and neither do the Scorpions. The venerable German rock band is unplugging for its next release, a CD/DVD package of its recent ‘MTV Unplugged’ appearance.
Scheduled to arrive in North America on Jan. 14, ‘MTV Unplugged’ was taped at the Lycabettus Theatre in Athens, Greece — a show that marked the first open-air taping in the history of ‘MTV Unplugged’ and came in the middle of the Scorpions’ ongoing ‘Farewell Tour,’ which a press release notes has “no end in sight, as to date the band has only played 23 out of the 38 countries planned on the itinerary.”
Somewhat unusually for ‘Unplugged,’ the Scorpions opted to mix some new material in with the expected hits; the set includes five previously unreleased songs (‘Dancing With the Moonlight,’ ‘Delicate Dance,’ Love Is the Answer,’ ‘Follow Your Heart’ and ‘Rock N’ Roll Band’). The new tracks mark the band’s first release of freshly written material since their 2010 farewell album, ‘Sting in the Tail.’
Scorpions ‘MTV Unplugged’ CD Track Listing: ‘Sting in the Tail’ / ‘Can’t Live Without You’ / ‘The Best Is Yet to Come’ / ‘Dancing With The Moonlight’ / ‘Delicate Dance’ / ‘Love Is the Answer’ / ‘Follow Your Heart’ / ‘Send Me an Angel’ / ‘Where the River Flows’ / ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane’ / ‘Rock & Roll Band’ / ‘Blackout’ / ‘Still Loving You’ / ‘Big City Nights’ / ‘Wind of Change’ /‘No One Like You’
DVD / Blu-ray Track Listing: ‘Sting in the Tail’ / ‘Can’t Live Without You’ / ‘Pictured Life’ / ‘Speedy’s Coming’ / ‘Born to Touch Your Feelings’ / ‘The Best Is Yet to Come’ / ‘Dancing With The Moonlight’ / ‘In Trance’ / ‘When You Came Into My Life’ / ‘Delicate Dance’ / ‘Love Is the Answer’ / ‘Follow Your Heart’ / ‘Send Me an Angel’ / ‘Where the River Flows’ / ‘Passion Rules the Game’ / ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane’ / ‘Hit Between the Eyes’ / ‘Drum-Athenica’ / ‘Rock & Roll Band’ / ‘Blackout’ / ‘Still Loving You’ / ‘Big City Nights’ / ‘Wind of Change’ / ‘No One Like You’ ‘When the Smoke Is Going Down’

I caught the edited version on Palladia last weekend - while better than the horrid and yawn inducing Acoustica, it wasn't great..... In Trance sounded fantastic but many of the other tracks were just OK, but still much better than the last unplugged performance they gave! Klaus still sounds great!
And supposedly MTV Unplugged is still a big deal in Europe, as MTV over their still actually plays music......

Oooh, yeah that one was pretty bad. Whose idea was it for them to cover "Drive" by the Cars? Ugh. Random.
A buddy of mine paid stooopid $$ for an import copy of "Acoustica" cuz it never got released in the US... when he heard it he wished he hadn't bothered.

The setlist is awesome; it's great to see them do some tracks off of Pure Instinct that lend themselves to the acoustic performance. Some of the performances seem a bit off. I think I would have been more interested in a studio acoustic disc though.

Ouch! Great example of buyer's remorse!

I almost paid a bunch for a copy once. Then wisely listened to some samples and decided it was a non-essential release. I have a collecting rule with discographies that says a live or acoustic release only counts if it is good.
The set list is great but having seen their 3-D concert blu-ray (which was pretty damn amazing) I think I'll stick with the cd only version.

I am going with the idea that there is nothing metal about doing acoustic albums...I will pass on this one...

I'm going with the idea that being "metal" all the time is lame.

By the way, I watched a few of these clips last week. For 65 years old, Klaus sounds brilliant. It's like his voice hasn't aged a day.
His teeth have, though.

I watched a little of this the other night too. It's pleasant enough, but not something I'd buy. Klaus does sound good. He still has a great voice for an old geezer.

I thought it was a good show. As MG said Klaus sounded great! I don't know why they needed all the guest singers though.

Since I didn't recognize any of the guests, I'm going to assume they are big in Europe and may have some appeal to a younger auidence. I dunno. I didn't mind them.

^^ I didn't see the show (we recently cutback our cable package in favor of Netflix to save a few bucks, and VH1 Classic was one of the channels that got dropped), but when I watched the "trailer" for it on YouTube I was wondering who the @#$% all the "special guests" they were making such a big deal about were, too.

I didn't think they were horrible. I just felt that the Scorps sounded great and didn't really need them.
