Picked up Slaughter in the Vatican & The Law over the weekend for $4.00 bucks, I remember seeing them live in New Orleans in the early 90's.& having a Phil sighting both times. The vocal styles are almost identical, I wonder why?? Both albums are top notch, the first one is straight ahead thrash, the second a little more groove oreinted. I would recommend them to anyone who likes Pantera with a little more edge.

I have a demo of them downloaded somewhere. I know Shannon always namedrops them when someone is discussing Pantera.

Story goes that Phil originally wanted to sing for Exhorder so bad he couldn't stand it. Apparently in Pantera's early days, he even said that he'd leave Pantera just to sing for Exhorder.

I think PANTERA is WAY better than EXHORDER. Even if they did copy their style they improved on it and wrote far better songs.
EXHORDER's vocals are far better than their guitar riffs, which just go in one ear and out the other. And could they even play solos? If they did, they didn't play any memorable ones.
The drumming on "Slaughter" may be the fastest I have ever heard in a thrash band. Strange how he is never mentioned in any "drummers who rule" lists.

I do want to say that for those who call Pantera an Exhorder wannabe, the only real similarities are in the vocals. Musically they are different.

I much enjoyed boths albums from both bands in 1990 and 1992. To bad Exhorder could have put out more music, didn't someone in the band try to shoot another band member or something like that?? I have also enjoyed Kyle Thomas vocals on other projects over the years. I though his singing on Alabama Thunder Pussy's latest was great!-TJ

Yah, guitarist Vinnie Labella (I believe, though it could have been Jay Ceravolo) kicked in drummer Chris Nail's door and threatened him with a gun.

you should give Floodgate's Penalty disc a spin. it is more in the vein of Down, but still great. his vox are top notch.

I have to say I like most the Exhorder thrash way, is more aggressive I have never liked Pantera, is one of that metal bands I'm not intersted to listen to same with Arch enemy and Children of bodom. I found Exhorder similar to Evildead.

Missed this thread. I gotta agree here. Penalty is a killer album! Apparently they're back together now.

I've heard that there are allot of similarities between them and Pantera, even before I joined these message boards. I don't own any Exhorder and would be interested to hear them as I am a fan of Pantera. Are Exhorder cd's hard to come by? I've searched from time to time on ebay, but nothing comes up. Are they out of print?

Roadrunner reissued their two albums (SLAUGHTER IN THE VATICAN and THE LAW) in a 2-CD set (part of their "Two From The Vault" series) a couple of years ago... I would imagine that would be pretty easy to find.

They have a new album coming out later this year, and they just leaked a song from it.
