Don't believe everything posted on Blabbermouth.
There are not two Dark Angels. There is only one. Ron Rinehart is their singer. Eric Meyer is also part of the "reunion" along with Hoglan and Durkin.
I spoke to Ron just a couple hours ago. We laughed about all the rumors on the internet about how he can't sing any longer and that he broke his neck twice (apparently once on stage in front of a crowd) and that he is in a wheelchair, etc. None of that is true either. Ron sang two songs on the Deliverance tribute just a couple years ago, he sang on the 2008 Dark Angel cover of "Creeping Death" and has sang on some demos with other bands he was attempting to start in more recent years. He is more than capable!
Don just posted on his personal Facebook:
Quote :
Our Dearest fans
It is with sadness that I see the events of the last days... and I cannot believe how far things have gone. When I headed out to start a reunion I would have never dreamed things would have gone this far.
I am saddened that you, our dearest fans, had to see this whole mess and for my part I apologize. There were many reasons why I left DFA after Darkness Descends- family but also drugs. I had lost my way and did what I thought was best for me and my family. Perhaps that was selfish of me.
There had been at that time and afterwards other things going on in DFA, and should I be a lesser man I would go and open that old can of worms. But it has been a long time, and some things should stay private for the sake of everyone involved. There is right and wrong on all sides, and that is all I shall say about this.
I had hoped that the old grudges would have laid long enough for us as a band to be able to get over them and remember the good times of our friendship and give our fans the reunion they had asked for. Sadly I was wrong, and I will take this opportunity to apologize to our fans for my mistake. I thought we could all be friends again and I opened my arms to all of my old friends without excluding anybody. Sadly, the things that were said to my face were not the things that had been said behind my back, and this lead to the current mess.
I will not allow this to continue and stain our legacy any longer. The rest of the band have shown what they wanted and I will obey their decision. If there is no room for Don Doty in Dark Angel, I will find my place somewhere else. I did not imagine my return to music to happen outside of Dark Angel, but life is full of surprises.
I will not give up. I wish my fellow members of DFA all the best with a reunion that will hopefully go better than the one in 2002.
Don Doty, Singer, song writer, Dad

I've only just heard that Creeping Death cover and Ron sounds great on it. I can't put my finger on what I didn't like about his singing on the albums but it's definitely there. I also didn't really like Don on We Have Arrived either. But Dark Angel are such a powerful unit that it's great to hear that they are back.

So Don is OUT, Ron is IN and they ARE reuniting and playing the KIT Festival?

As far as I know, no appearances have been officially announced from the band or their management.

I like Don but Ron just has such a powerful voice I still hope they could work something out so we can see both singers but I'm happy that Ron is in the fold.

KIT dropped both DA versions. It was getting quite childish and Queenrychesque to be honest...

My unfortunate prediction: DA will do nothing. No shows, no new recordings. Gene is making a living off of music and can't spare the time for DA because there is no money in it. And if Gene (or apparently Don) doesn't provide the initiative, nothing gets done.
Doty may have been way out of line, but at least he was trying to really get something going. It really does appear that some band members were telling him one thing on the phone and saying a different thing to others.
And he's not trying to sue the rest of the band for the name so I don't think this is really like the QUEENSRYCHE situation very much.
BTW, Ron's voice sounded better than ever at the 2002 "reunion" although the drummer was horrible.

Not yet. Seems like Don made like a Catholic and pulled out before things got all litigious. If things pressed on as they were (2 camps claiming to be Dark Angel and playing gigs) it could've gotten ugly. Thankfully it didn't come to that.

Well according to Ron they have management to help them actually make this happen, so hopefully it will happen.
If not, no big deal. I still enjoy all four albums. "Time Does Not Heal" is a regular cardio listen for me.

I'm not sure that bands at this level really need management anymore. That sounds like 80s thinking to me and not 2013. Just my two cents.
If Don hadn't booked these shows and tried to piece together his own lineup in the first place would this new "reunion" have happened? I see no indication that it would.
The fact that they have management doesn't really convince me that anything will happen. If he said "we are regularly practicing every week", "we have a show lined up in 3 months", or "we have studio time lined up" then I would be more positive about their prognosis. We'll see. There probably aren't many people who would like to see this happen more than me. I proudly wore my DA shirt to the MAIDEN/MEGADETH show last night and got some compliments.
I think Don has every right to get his own band together (it's a shame the name MERCILESS DEATH is already taken) and play covers from the first two albums. I think he took the high road in the end.

Don Doty just posted this on his FB "Has or (Would) Anyone Ask Ron If He Can Sing A Set of DA Songs ? That's 90min"
My question shouldn't Ron just come out and say he's more than capable just to shut people up?

Does the Doty era even have 90 minutes worth of material? (Don't answer because I already know it doesn't.)

I'm not even sure both Doty albums total SIXTY minutes.
Like I said, the one who wins is the one who actually does something. Doty is lame for wanting someone to ask him. Move on dude.

Agreed. It makes him look desperate and immature.

Yah your right even if they played pretty much every Don song is still wouldn't be 90 min.

I'd like to hear that quote in context as in the interview I heard, he was quite keen on them sharing the vocal duties. Maybe that's what he was talking about.
