How pissed off one can get if people doesnt like their band...

Ran across the the very definition of butt hurt in the form of a letter by a band to one of their fans expressing an opinion regarding their youtube song - it was simply too funny not to share:

"To the Old Man it Concerns,
That is a lot of words you typed for someone that you seem to have deemed unworthy. As expected, you are nothing more than an old man dinosaur living in the past. You refuse to acknowledge progress as well as the bands that have utilized and grown using past sounds to bring about what is the modern aspect of the Metal genre. I'm willing to bet that you live the majority of your life this way- dwelling over what could have, should have, or would have been. Its a simpleton's and pathetic psychology.

If you took the actual time to listen to the album and lyrics, you would realize that there is NO other cd like ours to have ever existed as nobody else has been given the go ahead and knowledge to write about such topics in such depth and as straight forward without being held accountable for treason and then promptly rolled down a Scottish hill within a barrel as its on fire. You might also be interested to know that the United States government feels so threatened by my simple statements and music on facebook that they've put a gag order on me from using the site. The best part is the quoting of Manly P. Hall, an Illuminate if ever there was one. And he thinks he's against the government. With pornogore? You ain't seen carnage yet, son.

Geez this sounds similar to the whole Amy's Bakery drama going on right now.

Great band. The guy should be able to handle criticism better than that though. No matter what you create, not everyone is gonna like it.

Gives the guy some grief for "living in the past" and "refusing to acknowledge progress" and toots their own horn about being creative, thus "given jnowledge"....Then quotes something from 72 years ago, that is classic.

If you are going to be an artist of any kind, once you throw out there in the public, you have to prepare for some harsh criticism, whether its warranted or not.

If I ever get a band going again and we make a album I'm going to title it
"rolled down a Scottish hill within a barrel as its on fire"

Maybe I just don't understand the music (which is okay, I am old! )but I don't really hear much in that song that wasn't going on 20 plus years ago.

Although by his reaction to a little criticism, this guy may only be seven!

I wrote an angry letter to HM Magazine one time because of a review that they posted. However, my letter wasn't based on their negative review of the music, which compared us to Sacred Warrior (huh?), but rather the accusation of plagiarizing the cover art. It ticked me off something fierce. I didn't call them names and rant on, but I got my point across. It created quite a bit of controversy and probably helped sell more copies of the CD, but that wasn't the point.

The clip above wasn't bad. Reminded me of old Napalm Death or something, so I guess that was what he was talking about going on 20 years ago.

HM used to be a reputable magazine, but always tended to have misinformed writers. Which album is this and what album art did they compare your's to?

It was in 1998, the Puppet of Destruction album and they said I copied Bruce Dickinson's Accident of Birth for the front cover and The Offspring's "Smash" album for the band photos. The thing that ticked me off so bad about it was that our cover art had been done a good YEAR before Accident of Birth came out, as we were selling shirts of the CD long before the CD came out. During the recording of the album we had to switch record companies which delayed the release date. Doug Van Pelt, editor of the magazine knew this information yet allowed the review to print like that anyhow. And the band photos were actual x-rays of the band. Our drummer at the time was an x-ray tech and we thought it would be different to have x-ray photos rather than the same old photos. It worked with the cover that had the jester with the skeleton mask on. Anyhow, I drew that cover and did all the design of the booklet and such, so it ticked me off enough to shoot off a letter to the magazine. This was only compounded by the review of the music that accused us of copying Mortification, but sounding like a Sacred Warrior and Iron Maiden. The whole review was ridiculous but at the time HM had a big influence on what CDs sold and which ones did not.

TEN YEARS later the magazine did a debate piece between myself and the reviewer in which he apologized for the review and basically admitted he was new to the style of music.
