To be honest ALEX I'd prefer to be your friend, you wear me down with constant arguments. I agree, mate: can we call a truce, you win. :headbanger:
Agreed. I did not mean to pick an argument with you. I was simply putting my own perspective on things. Not so much to defend Varg's music, abilities etc. mostly just as a general observation to how we can all respect each others tastes. All too often I see youtube videos, forum posts etc where people claim one form of music is better, more righteous etc than another. I am not the biggest black metal fan nor the biggest death metal fan nor an expert of metal sub-genres - I try to enjoy as many different styles of metal that I can. As with everyone here, I have my own levels of tolerance towards what I deem to be good and not so good.
For me, I do not like grind and the various grind derivatives. It is probably a limitation in my own level of understanding and my own expectations to what I see as 'good' and 'talented' music. I could easily start a thread saying "Grind is talentless" but I think the response I would get is similar to the posts I made in this thread - and again I am not being accusatory of you or of anyone else.
The way I see it, I don't want anyone and I mean anyone to be limited in what they experience, listen and like. I have no respect for anyone saying 'this music is satanic burn it' and stuff like that. These are the same people who several hundred years ago said Renaissance art was Satan's doing. I want everyone to be able to enjoy what they enjoy without having the wool pulled over their eyes. This goes for all forms of music, and in this context metal music.

No one should have to explain it. It's all subjective. I am no fan of Burzum, I actually think it's complete crap, but I wouldn't say Burzum is at all representative of black metal as a whole.
Although I don't like traditional black metal much, I do like a number of bands that incorporate black metal, like...

In response to ALEX DEE ROKKET, my cat (a kitten) just pissed on a piece of newspaper - should I offer that as art? The grounds of modern art are blurred to basically give people (like punk/hardcore musicians) a shake at it, and let pretentious idiots see meaning where there is none. Picasso sold because he had a serious eye for the abstract, same as Dali, I could go on. To compare Burzum as art is an insult. A joke of the most vulgar kind. Some twit wailing his head off to a computer generated track, with pre recorded computer drums - give me a bucket. Varg is a joke, he has no talent, unless u call making noise, an actual talent. Like comparing Dali to my cat pissing on the newspaper.
I find Varg the twit of metal Xfactor the golden boy of black metal. Pathetic.
With all due respect, this is the same kind of crap "pretentious idiots" say. Not saying you are one, but come on, you're doing the same exact thing.

It has always been so, that one mans garbage is another mans gold. We simply cannot deny that what wr, as individuals, may see or hear, as crap, is another individuals favorite artist.

I kind of like this type of black metal and just black metal in general. Xasthur is the best I've heard in this style of BM.

Its not really about being heavy. Black metal is more about setting up an atmosphere. Black metal is probably my personal favorite genre, or at least the most listened to. Although I'm personally into the more melodic side of the genre.

This is the kind of thing I listen to and think: this would be pretty decent if it weren't for the vocals.

If Varg has not burned the churches and killed the dude, Burzum would have been long time forgotten. Unfortunately now it is the opposite... Such is life
