The K-tel thread got me wondering, has anyone ever ordered those compilation cd's they used to sell on tv (theyve pretty much disappeared in the mp3 era)? Heres a (paticularly cheesy) example of what im talking about:

Never ordered one, but I always watched the commercials with great enthusiam. I'd watch the song tracks scroll by and say "Got it, got it, got it, sucks, got it..."
They always seemed to have too much of a mish-mosh of tunes. A bunch of good stuff, then 3 or 4 "out-there" tracks that didn't quite fit in with the rest of the theme.
This one's a classic...

I purchased the Time/Life "Singers and Songwriters" set for the ol' lady years ago. It's like 12 discs and I give them a spin from time to time. I dig those "It's Freedom Rock man" commercilas cause I know/knew people just like them.

When my brother was in high school he and his friend were "distributing" a home made compilation tape of local death metal acts through the mail, called "Death Attack." We used to joke about them doing a commercial for it that would parody the Freedom Rock ad, i.e. "Hey man, is that DEATH ATTACK? Well TURN IT UP MAN!"

I was tempted a few times but if I remember the shipping (& handling) charges were almost more than the price. Thing I always remember about those ads was the addresses were Van Nuys, California. First time I went through there I expected to see a bunch of wherehouses with nothing but product sold on television. I was disappointed.

That's the same way I felt about Battle Creek, Michigan. When I was a kid, I thought the whole town was a giant cereal making factory like Willy Wonka. I soooo wanted to go there and dive into a giant mound of sugar frosted flakes.

My wife has this Southern rock CD compilation called "GOIN' SOUTH" which used to be advertised on TV... but if memory serves, she bought it in a Wal-Mart.
