Yea, he and Schneider did eventually become friends. Ebert summed up the "Deuce" thing by saying that Schneider "is not a bad man. He just made a bad movie."

He has finally been re-united with Siskel. RIP
Both lent their voices to one of my favorite shows, The Critic:

My favorite Roger Ebert quip was him commenting about how action heroes of today just don't have the time for the "love making" that their counterparts of yesteryear did.

I have watched the entire series so much, I could re-create every episode in my head.

Amazing man in many ways more than I, a hero to me, a prophet, a counselor, and much more. I stayed with Rog's writing since the late 90's when I was librarian at my community college. A couple of his books were available there. That's why I became a crit thinking minor with an English major (though you couldn't tell from my posts). Beyond that, I immersed myself in cinema, its history, its influence. And above all, when it came time to read a new blog post or memoir of his, I learned a lot about objective thinking, asking the important questions about the universe, myself, the angels and the deceivers. He was important to me and I felt the earth move when he died. RIP, Mr. Ebert.

I miss "The Critic!"
A couple of years ago I met Mike Reiss, who created "The Critic" (he's also been on "The Simpsons" writing staff for many years) - he did a speaking engagement at a local college just prior to the release of "The Simpsons Movie," where he talked about his career and showed tons of video clips from all of his work including "The Critic" ...his favorite movie parody from the show was when they did Howard Stern as "The Cockroach King" ("Hey baby, show me your thorax!")... very nice guy. I had him autograph the cover to one of my "Simpsons" music CDs and told him how much I had loved "Critic," he said "I appreciate that, I wish there had been more of you."
He said that when ABC cancelled "Critic", they told him that it wasn't "meshing" with the "Home Improvement" audience (both shows aired on the same night) and they were worried that "The Critic" would damage Home Improvement's "brand." He said he told them "Tim Allen is a convicted cocaine dealer! He spent two years in a federal prison! You're afraid that MY stupid show is going to ruin his 'brand'? Really?"

Went to a used-book sale sponsored by our town library today and picked up Roger Ebert's "YOUR MOVIE SUCKS" for a buck. Woohoo!!
