I was actually thinking about this recently when I was listening to music on shuffle and Santana came up. He's had some hugely successful albums collaborating with various artists, but most of the songs on those albums were written by other people.

There's no denying that the man can play guitar, but that's not what made the albums so successful. So how much credit should he actually get?
