- Every music fan should make the trek out to the Surf Ballroom. And the corn field where the plane went down. It's a pretty haunting experience. I had relatives who lived in Iowa and when making the trip I always made a point of taking a few hours to visit the ballroom and site.
It's funny how events in my life from 25 years ago seem like lifetimes ago. But the music that was the soundtrack to those events doesn't. Seriously. We Were not even a thought or dream in various pants when that plane went down. But I have been on that stage 3 or 4 times, before and after shows, and there is some weird electricity that happens when you realize who stood on that spot before you. My best story is going to see my fav guitarist [at the time], John Sykes [in Thin Lizzy] and ended up becoming the biggest fanboy of Eric Sardinas [the opener] in the world!!! Even got Ult to list Eric on his site at one time!!! Hope it is still on there. Anyways, have hit the surf for shows a few dozen times. So, I know I have left my stink on that site.

| Only related to the title, but if you wanna feel old, tell the "no Coke, Pepsi" joke to someone in their 20s and watch their blank stare. | |

| Pff.. No, you want some REAL fun? Check out the Youtube series "Kids React." Listening to them talk about the Walkman and original Gameboy, you just sort of go "Wow... At least I KNEW about the crap people older than me used. You'd think we were living in the dark ages." | |

My Discover card looks like a cassette tape. I can't tell you how many young clerk have seen it, stared at it, and said something like, "What's this?" =(
