Skeebo - you are correct, Radiohead is art rock, they started as grunge lite/alt but moved into the art rock arena

Yeah, ProgArchives.com classifies RADIOHEAD as "Crossover Prog"...much like MUSE and GAZPACHO...bands who take Rock instrumentation and fuse it with other things and try different things each time out...Art Rock is a good description as well...

Wow no mention of my favorite prog band Pagans Mind? They have all the technical prowess but seem to remember its all about melody first. If you don't know these guys def check them out.
Pagans Mind - Enigmatic Calling Pagans Mind - Celestrial Entrance Pagans Mind - Gods Equation Pagans Mind - Infinity Divine Dream Theater - Images and Words Kansas - Leftoverture Kansas - Point of Know Return Rush - Chronicles (Had to go with this, way too many great Rush cds to just name 1) Dream Theater - Train of Thought Avantasia - The Scarecrow ( This is prog to me )
Prog is one of my fav genres of music and there are just way too many great albums to name but if you havent heard of Pagans Mind you really are missing out IMO..
Another reason why Jorn Lofstad is a top 3 guitar player of mine...

PAGAN'S MIND is indeed quite cool...but this particular thread is more for Prog Rock, not Prog Metal...there is a Prog Metal thread in the Metal area...
I still remember the first time I ever saw a Yes album cover. The tunes matched the cover, interesting huh ? The same thing with ELP's "Brain Salad Surgery" The album cover was a trip. Nowadyas I am still spinning lots of Rush and Kansas.

Yes but people have mentioned a lot of Prog Metal bands here so I just kept that going...

Focus was a band that during the 80's I was only familiar with Moving Waves, but I've been sampling their other albums recently and I'm really digging them...especially the album Focus III.
Gentle Giant is another fairly recent discovery, real good stuff, they definitely had their own sound going - nice use of jazz-style grooves.

Right...I think this thread pre-dates the Metal one...I'm just officially dividing them up here.

Technically the thread does say Prog Rock and the Like. So Prog Metal could fall under the Like part, I'm just saying.

Agreed.
I agree as well. I like the streaming mp3s. It's a good way to check out an unfamiliar band.
I enjoy many of the bands mentioned here as well. My personal faves would include Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Rush, Kansas, Porcupine Tree, and Spock's Beard. I'd have to think a bit for specific albums...

Tormato is a tough one there are some GREAT songs and then there are a couple of really goofy dreadfull songs on there.
One of the most beautiful songs is on that album...... Madrigal.
