Ok I have decided that in 2013 that I am going to explore Country music, I find myself slightly interested in it after hearing such bands as Lady Antebellum and Blake Shelton, anyone here into any form of country music and if so based on the 2 selections here what would you recommend?
I also like Johnny Cash but hes in a class and classification all by himself heh

My wife is the country music fan 'round our house. She listens to a lot of the pop/country stuff like Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, etc.
It's not my thing for the most part but I'll admit that the Dixie Chicks are insanely talented players. Their "Goodbye Earl" video is also one of the funniest music vids ever made, in my book.

Try out some of the late 60's/early 70's country rock bands like The Byrds, Poco, Flying Buritto Brothers, New Riders Of The Purple Sage, and Commnader Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen. They sound more country than most modern stuff but back then they were considered rock bands.
country rock is music and it is hard to do

Don't know if it is what you're looking for based on the two artist you mentioned, but I have always loved The Mavericks. And yeah all the classic stuff posted above is great too.

I haven't really delved too deeply into Country, as my tastes would clash with what people really consider Country music. I have to say I'm a pretty big fan of Lady Antebellum as well, as I own all three albums. I love groups with great harmonies, and they have great harmonies. I thought maybe this was just some great production work, but I have a bootleg concert of theirs from 2010, and what they are able to capture on an album, they seem to be able to replicate live. I guess my love for groups who can harmonize goes back to my Father's fondness for Doo-Wop music. The best harmonies bar none go back to that of The 5th Dimension IMO, but they of course were an R&B group.

Aside from his outstanding skills as a guitarist, his deep, booming voice and clever, witty lyrics have a certain appeal to me as well.

One I forgot that is more modern country who my brother turned me onto is Gary Allan. I have his first few albums and they are really good.

Try some of the more rock-oriented stuff like David Allan Coe, Hank Jr, Charlie Daniels, Waylon Jennings (and his son Shooter as well), and Travis Tritt. If you do want to explore pop country then you may like brooks and dunn, gretchen wilson, and big and rich. Little Texas are ok too, but very ballad-heavy.

I would second Charlie Daniels. Some great stuff in his catalog.

This. I meant to post something similar when I had time. Add John Prine and Mason Proffit.

I was in a country lick in the early 90's for about 3 years but I will never again buy any. Just not my thing, to me it's an exclusive genre you have to be accepted in!

No not like metal it's like it takes a long time for any country bands to actually get heard.

Hold on, you never mentioned anything about bands. You were saying that you would never buy anything Country music again, due to its exclusivity and the fact that one fights for acceptance. Which then translates to the Country music community non acceptance of outsiders.
I'm just going by what was written. Are you condemning the Country music community because they're not tolerant towards those who are trying to get into country music and don't have that country gene already in them? If so, I think every genre is guilty of that.

If you want harder edged, modern country that is more on the "rock" side of the house, try Eric Church and Brantley Gilbert.
