New Saxon album - "Sacrifice" coming Feb 2013

NWOBHM stalwarts Saxon return with their 20th studio album, titled Sacrifice, produced by legendary soundsmith Andy Sneap. I can't wait for this one! Saxon is one of my all-time favorite bands and their material over the last 20 years has been absolutely stellar. Their last effort, Call to Arms was a total modern NWOBHM classic. I managed to catch them twice on their US tour last year. Brilliant performers, second maybe only to Maiden.

One of the few automatic buys for me.

I also saw them on the last tour. They are still in great form, and actually the studio albums from Unleash the Beast onward have all been real good. I think Lionheart is my favourite post-golden era Saxon album.

Did Saxon ever have a non-golden era?

I'm guessing they are still best known for their NWOBHM era albums, ie. '79-'84

Awesome! Call To Arms and Into the Labyrinth were both excellent. I'll be looking forward to this new one.

These guys have been on a hot streak for over a decade, I thought their mid period 1985-1991 was not as good as their earlier classic era, but they have more then made up for it since then.

I'm looking forward to hearing this!!

For as long as there will be new Saxon albums i know there is something good and positive about this world. I love everything Saxon do, including their mid-period when they went in a more commercial sounding direction.

They have had some weaker albums in comparison to their earlier albums but that is bound to happen when you have over 19 albums or so. For me the weakest Saxon album is actually Killing Ground, I felt that album was a bit too focused on their hard rock roots than their all out metallic assault.

I have never seen Saxon live unfortunately but from what I gather their setlists seem balanced between older and newer material. I believe it was the case with The Eagle Has Landed Pt3 where one disc was just classic period Saxon and the other newer songs from Unleash the Beast onwards. So they do cover a big portion of their catalog live not just the first 5 albums.

Can't wait for this one!

Totally agree with this. And I'll add that the albums from Unleash The Beast and up are their best ones for me, even though I of course enjoy the 5 first ones.

Can't wait to hear Sacrifice!!

I really like KIlling Ground.
The title track, Deeds Of Glory, Dragon's Lair and Rock Is Our Life (what a killer riff!) are as metal as they can get IMO. And the other tracks are heavy enough overall to be also called metal.

An album like Destiny would be more like what you described about Killing Ground.
