Second Spin had a massive sale towards the end of August and I ended up buying the following albums - total was approx 95 bucks but when divided by 24 albums that's like 3.90 per album. Although Second Spin normally deals in used cds, 4 out of the 24 albums I received were brand spankin' new and sealed.
With respect to the rest of the albums - they are used and some appear to have been played extensively, which translates in they have surface scratches. I suspect some will skip or may be unplayable but this was a gamble after all. This is what you get when buying bulk albums for such a low price. Some may play, others may not. It's a risk and gamble you gotta live with.
At the same time, this is also a result of fair wear and tear (or play). As far as I can tell, all the albums I bought are first pressings and with the exception of a few newer albums, most pre-date the modern era of portable mp3 players and ripping cds. I assume most of these cds were once bought new at the time they were released and were played in car stereos, boomboxes, stereos etc. It is especially these older cds that have a fair amount of miles on them whereas the newer releases are appear to be barely played. Again I equate this to the pre-ipod vs ipod era.
Minor complaint with the order - one of the CDs I ordered was Anthrax's Sound of White Noise (the original pressing). Unfortunately this is not what came with my package. Instead I received another album by a completely different band - Fear of God's Toxic Voodoo. I am not familiar with this band but I understand they are thrash. I have yet to hear this album so it could turn out to be good. I also am not aware of the availability of this album whether it is still in print or what. If anything it looks like a first pressing. Anyone have any info about this album?
In any case, here is what I got:
Anthrax - Stomp 442
Megadeth - Risk (original pressing)
Megadeth - Cryptic Writings (original pressing)
Megadeth - Hidden Treasures (original pressing)
Extreme - Pornografitti
Extreme - Extreme
Extreme - III Sides to Every Story
Sepultura - Roorback (brand new and sealed digipak version with bonus Revolusongs cd)
Sepultura - Against
Sepultura - Sepulnation
Firehouse - 3
Firehouse - Category 5
Fear Factory - Demanufacture
Fear Factory - Transgression
Fear Factory - Digimortal (brand new and sealed digipak comes with bonus songs)
Fear Factory - Archetype
Iced Earth - Gloriouss Burden (the patriotic edition comes with all the songs for the album and the gettysburg trilogy on a separate cd, this is a brand new and sealed one)
In Flames - Soundtrack to your Escape
Chimaira - Impossibility of Reason
Chimaira - Pass out of Existence
Chimaira - Infection (brand new and sealed digipak)
Chimaira - Chimaira
I must say, some of the above albums were bought to fill gaps in my collection. Not everything is stellar or classic - some stuff like Soundtrack to your Escape isn't a big favorite of mine, and I do like modern In Flames just not big on that album. Sepultura similarly, I didn't own any albums from the Green-era so I found these real cheap.
