| A new one from one of my favorite directors/producers. (scroll down a bit for the trailer)

| I moved the thread.
Like "The Orphanage" this appears to be another directorial debut with Guillermo overseeing it. Looks creepy, I'm sure it will be worth watching.

Thanks for moving it. I think this looks eminently creepy. Somehow, almost everything Del Toro gets involved with I end up really enjoying. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| One of my favorites was "The Devil's Backbone", loved the vibe of that film and the mix of ghost story and historical drama.

| That trailer was amazing! I'll be watching for that one.
And evidently I'm two books behind in the Strain series! | |

| Can you maybe find a smaller version of that picture so we don't stretch the page?
Thanks.

| This flick looks cool....but now that the trailer is being played all over TV, my kids keep getting freaked out by it. Haha _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Although I haven't seen it, I've read quite a few positive reviews for it. I'll have to check it out sooner or later. | |

| Mama has raked in an impressive weekend take over $28.1 million, this is an excellent weekend performance for a film that only cost $15 million to produce. |

...and Jessica Chastain has the unique distinction of starring in the #1 and #2 movies at the box office in the same weekend - "Mama" and "Zero Dark Thirty." I wonder if that's a first? _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

The official numbers for the weekend so far (since this is a holiday weekend final numbers will be released tomorrow). 1. Mama (28.1 million) 2. Zero Dark Thirty (17.6 million) 3. Silver Linings Playbook (11.4 million) 4. Gangster Squad (9.1 million) 5. Broken City (9.0 million) All the way down the list at #10 with a truly disappointing 6.3 million was the new Arnold vehicle "The Last Stand". Guess the Governator doesn't have the box office pull he once had. |

| Guess not... I saw a trailer for last stand a while back and it really looks bad. The one liners were cringe inducing. I absolutely loved the expendables, but I don't think I can bring myself to pay money to see this one. | |

| I'll probably buy "Mama" when it comes out on DVD but I'm disappointed that it's PG-13. I hope Del Toro isn't going the way of Peter Jackson, catering to mainstream success...
Although now that I think about it the Hellboys were PG-13 and I enjoyed the crap out of those. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

If the studio demanded a PG-13 rating then the producer has no choice but to deliver that unless they have "final cut" which is extremely rare. I think you can make a good scary film with a PG-13 rating, gore does not necessarily equal scary. It just depends on how well it is handled. Probably also important to reiterate that Del Toro did not direct this film, he's the executive producer. ...and of course Del Toro is catering for mainstream success, did you see the trailer for Pacific Rim, the giant robot vs. giant monster flick coming this summer? If that isn't a completely commercial vehicle then I don't know what is. |

I haven't seen the Pacific Rim trailer but I'm going to look it up now. That sounds like a Kaiju flick and if that's the case I'm OK with it; I just get squeamish around PG-13 horror - although I'll admit it's possible to create a good PG-13 horror film (Drag Me To Hell comes to mind). It just sticks in my craw that the guy who brought us "Meet The Feebles", "Bad Taste" and "Dead Alive" is now giving us Lord Of the Rings, King Kong and The Hobbit. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

I can understand the frustration, I appreciate those early films though I'm not sure I'd ever re-watch any of them now. Personally my favorite Peter Jackson films are his mid-period films "Heavenly Creatures" (a great drama with fantasy sequences) and "The Frighteners". The only recent film he's done that I liked was "The Lovely Bones". |
