Shock Totem - who loves them?

The guys behind these great publications are too shy to write about it outside the Conversation Piece area, but they deserve more praise, me thinks!

So, who here have bought, read and loved Shock Totem? Favorite issue? Favorite story?

I've bought them. I enjoy the wide range of ideas in the stories. My favorite is still probably "Sweepers".

Shock totem is something used by shaman.

SHOCK TOTEM is a magazine/digest of unique dark fiction. It is conceived and put together by folks who met up here years ago.





It's also a weapony thing in World Of Warcraft...

I bought the first issue on my Kindle app for my iPad. I enjoyed it very much. Not sure why I haven't bought the others.

Without a doubt, Shock Totem exists because this forum exists. I might have started another publication, but surely it wouldn't have been called Shock Totem.

Anyway, thanks, guys! Really appreciate the kind words. It's a hell of a lot of work, far more than most people realize, so a little praise goes a long way. And yes, like John said, any kind of review on Amazon helps a ton. The more positive reviews (four stars or more), the more Amazon shows our issues to potential customers.

Hell, even logging into Amazon and "liking" the print and Kindle pages help. Agreeing with or adding your own tags (you gotta scroll down to see these) helps. Amazon's algorithm is a tricky thing to figure out, but this stuff has proven to help.

But again, thanks! Issue #5 is coming next month. =)

I agree. I remember Mercedes' non-fiction piece was really disturbing as well. Now that I think about it, wasn't her's about being a nurse or something in a group home? What a companion piece to Nick's essay.

Yeah, Mercedes did one about working with child sex offender, and then another about losing friends and family in a mining disaster. I did the other one, the zombie/alcoholism piece. For issue #6, there is a piece on Alzheimer's.

At some point, though, we're going to have to find outside writers because we're running out of tragedies. Haha. Check this out, though:

This could have been a brilliant narrative nonfiction piece. So terribly sad, you know. =(

Why didn't you run that? I know it's terribly sad and poignant but I bet there are other people who could relate to the same feelings.
