Nope. No other reason really than that I can't stand the music and especially the vocals. But I have to give the devil his due, they sure know how to write a melody.

There are two phases to Journey's catalog. The Gregg Rolie years, which are superior IMO, and the Johnathan Cain years. I love the Rolie years and merely appreciate the Cain years. I do own Escape and Frontiers, but my favorite Journey tunes come from the earlier phase.

Ah, music fans. We're all the same. Haha.
Oh, the irony was not missed, and the debate to even post that went on for awhile. But, one must be true to ones own idiosyncrasies.

Just about every band that I love and most of them were major acts, critics loathed, the list includes Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, AC/DC , KISS, Aerosmith and list goes on and on and on...
Most Rock and Metal acts are disliked, just because they play this music. Take this idiot Robert Christgau for example, he calls himself the "dean of rock critics" despite his outspoken hatred towards rock and metal. The sad thing is that a lot of people still believe what those 'critics' say and follow them like sheeps. I mean, i always wonder why Uriah Heep for example is so despised. They were good musicians, making great music - yet just because some stupic critics said they suck (and one saying she had to commit suicide if they make it big, to which Mick Box replied he's still waiting for her to make her promise true) they get called "poor man's deep purple" and other crap.
I think sometimes critics just hate band, because they get popular. AC/DC became popular and critics started to hate them. Toto was once loved, then they got 6 Grammys and were called crap. Journey made it big and where called crap. Genesis started to enter the charts and critics called them "Genesnooze"
As for Journey: I really like their first three albums and i like most of the other albums, just as i like REO Speedwagon and the other so called AOR-Bands

You can safely add me to that list s well. I can't stand them. I get why people dig the band, they have talent, they can write massive hooks and sing-a-long choruses. Journey along with REO Wimpwagon and Loverboy are way overrated IMO. If I am going sans metal, it's usually Bryan Adams (yeah yeah, epitome of a corporate rock star), The Beach Boys, or Petra.
Both Journey and REO were quite different bands in their early days.
While Journey staid pretty good even after they went the more commercial path, REO became a real joke. Even then, they still had their moments, though.

I liked REO up until Hi Infidelity. There was a lot of good stuff on that one too but that was the beginning of the end of them to my ears.

I like the Unidentified Flying Tuna Trot better.
My 2 favorite REO albums are You Can Tune A Piano But You Can't Tuna Fish and Nine Lives.

I spent some time on Spotify last night listening to REO Speewagon and I must say I am becoming a convert of their 70's stuff. They had a strong boogie rock vibe to their music, not unlike Foghat. I still cringe over the ballads but I have much more respect for them now. I might even pick up "9 Lives" as the cover of the almighty Chuck Berry's Rock n' Roll Music is smokin. Thanks for posting the videos. Now, Back to Journey, as that is the original intent of this thread.

listen not to this one ^, - in terms of both heaviness and songwriting quality, 'Eclipse' matches 'Frontiers', and even manages to sound fresh enough to lure in non-Journey fans. And Pineda is bulletproof on it. It does have a fairly cheesy ballad on there but you can't win 'em all. This was my favorite thing that came out last year along with the Arch/Matheos album.

How could you like Revelation and not Eclipse? Eclipse realizes all the potential that Revelation had, Arnel coming into his own vocally and the guitar being beefier.

i thought it was horribly bland. Revelation had a ton of melody but Eclipse was just blah.

I just want to ask......but even though I've already shown myself as a major Journey fan.....
.....When you first saw what Steve Perry looked like, did anyone else go "Hey, when did Pee Wee Herman get a mullet?"
Seriously though, I love Perry.
I even have his solo albums. And his greatest hits album.

I got nuthin' against Journey. I don't own any of their albums, but if they come on the radio I don't change the station either. They got a ton of MTV and radio play when I was growin' up so I kinda take them for granted, I guess.
I smiled when "Separate Ways" came on during a key part of "Tron: Legacy," as someone mentioned previously.
Gotta give props to Arnel Pineda, he sounds so Perry-ish that it's almost spooky. I 've seen their "Live in Manila" concert on VH1 Classic a couple of times and if you close your eyes, the only thing that gives away that it's not Perry on vox is when he talks to the audience ("Herro, Manirra! Sankoo very mush!").
