Word is, this is a sample of their next album. So these tracks might be on it.

they should release this on cd!!
I'd imagine they will. ZZ Top has an older fanbase that still buys albums and isn't ready to go all digital. This digital ep is a good way to test the waters though.

And in another case of Why The Hell Is This A Bonus Track Or B-Side, the two bonus tracks on this album are bad-ass! Two of the best songs ZZ Top has written in the past 30 years! Why they're b-sides, I don't know.
I can tell you one thing, Rick Rubin has lost it. ZZ Top do not need thick, muddy, bass-heavy guitar tones. It annoys me when he messes with things this way. And "Flying High" is nowhere near as good as the previously released version. Total letdown. Might be good for those who never heard the original, but this version is weak.

Rick Rubin has sucked since the early 90s. A name-only hack with tin ears.
Crosby, Stills & Nash started production on a album with him recently and they had such a horrible experience during the first couple songs they decided to shelve the album completely.

Have you heard this?
Haha.
But seriously, compare these:
The first one has a great tone to it, great sound. The intro is way better. The vocals are way better. Yeah, it's not a typical ZZ tune, but the La Futura version sounds horrible. They sound drunk and out of tune. I don't get it at all.

Good grief. I think I know what he was "trying" to do, probably the original intent was to have 2 guitar tracks one in standard and the other an octave lower to double it...but it doesn't work because they didn't even get the tuning right. That's a dumbass producer ALL the way.
I watched that Corey Taylor video, that's exactly the same sh*t I've heard from many other sources...dude doesn't do anything, he just shows up to collect his producer royalties. What a scumbag.

Luckily many of the songs on the album sound great. But it would have been much better with a cleaner, more classic ZZ sound, you know.
And I'm still baffled that the bonus tracks aren't on the main album. If "Flyin' High" was a bonus track I'd understand it.

Not surprisingly the recording, mix and mastering are getting butchered on the audiophile board I post on. While I'm not as nazi as they tend to be, I'm also getting very sick of overly-compressed garbage music productions.
I know how good things CAN sound when the goal is high fidelity...not "highest volume", so it's incredibly frustrating that so few albums sound really good these days, especially in the hard rock/metal world where there aren't many dynamics to begin with.
ZZ Top doesn't need polished, modern, compressed production...Rubin did a horrible disservice to a great band.

If this album had a classic ZZ sound, it'd be a pretty big comeback album, I think. As it stands, the production is going to turn people off. Sadly, it's mostly similar to XXX in sound.
Still, it's a solid album.

been through La Futura twice now and I am really enjoying this. I dont like the overuse of the buzz but otherwise they sound great.

Billy Gibbons with Queens Of The Stone Age doing "Precious & Grace". Excellent cover.
