The store in town has some freebies and discounts and some sucky local bands. In Portland they had Queensryche one year, that was cool.

I've always wanted to partake in R.S.D. celebrations, but inevitably I wind up having other stuff to do on that day and never make it. Looks like that tradition will be continuing this year... sigh.

Ditto.
Add to it that the only stores participating in my city are downtown also kills it for me. My wife's working this weekend, so there's no way in hell I'm dragging along 3 toddlers with me to a used record shop downtown packed with audio-snobs and other weirdos on a Saturday. I'll keep them in their cages while I watch tv and drink beer instead.

Speaking of Record Store Day, I follow their Facebook page and yesterday they posted this video from a participating store with a hilarious name: HOT POOP, in Walla Walla, Washington. Needless to say, I laughed so hard that I nearly blew soda out my nose, cuz I'm totally immature like that.
(The store's name is a Frank Zappa reference, by the way.)
I wish I lived near this store, just so I could hear myself say to my wife "See you later, honey, I'm going to Hot Poop!" on a regular basis.

Who knew? Walla Walla is farm country famous for their sweet onions. Guess the hippies gotta live somewhere.

There are a lot of stores around me participating, including the one that seems to have the best metal selections. I've never been able to go to one of these so maybe this year will be it.

Never once made it to any of these Record Store Day, and like FF, this year I will not be making it either, they mostly do these special releases on vinyl anyway, is that correct? I do not collect vinyl which is why I ask.

Most of it is vinyl but they do have cds on occasion too. I'm not sure about this year though. I saw the list and found absolutely nothing that I would really have to deal with the nutty crowd for. I usually go but the store I had closest to me is now gone and I always have to work. I get out early but not early enough for all the good stuff to still be there, but there isn't any good stuff this year so whatever.
Last year I tried going early cause we were away in NJ for a few days. I only wanted the Foo Fighters release and both stores I tried were sold out in seconds. I'd really rather hit up the big record convention in NYC hopefully this year.

I think that's the nation-wide major draw, but each store also does their own thing. Special sales and stuff like that if I'm not mistaken.
I'm not a vinyl collector either, but I'd go if I knew the place was doing a buy one, get one free deal or something of that nature.

I'll go to my usual places, Dimple Vinyl on Arden and Esoteric on El Camino. Dimple is going to have a swap meet as well and the former owner of Esoteric(he hasn't owned it since the late 70s) will be there selling amongst the dealers.
Hopefully, Dimple have the CRB single and Esoteric will have a sale(I was eyeing a few things last week)!

I still have plenty of vinyl, once I replace an album on CD I give away the vinyl. I own way too much crap and only want to collect one format, and maybe why I have never made too much of an effort to make it to any Record Store Day since I am not of vinyl, but it sounds like they make killer deals on any music related formats.

I don't collect vinyl anymore either, but even so, if I were local I would try to make it to Hot Poop's R.S.D. celebration. With a name like that I bet they really know how to party.

I want to get the Ozzy and Rainbow releases that are coming out for Record Store Day. I definitely want the Rainbow Long Live Rock N Roll picture disc. I will be in Pittsburgh so I will hit up the biggest vinyl store in the known universe: http://www.jerrysrecords.com/

I usually just wait to get the RSD stuff online a few months after the collectors all pay the higher prices. Scored the Dio - Killing The Dragon pic disc for about half of what I would've paid on release day. I also just got sick of all the ebay vultures snatching up multiple copies of everything. Why they don't make it one per person I'll never know (Zia Records doesn't even try to do this).
Would like to get the Ozzy and Rainbow releases. Also have my eye on the Peter Tosh, Lee Perry, and P. Galore releases but those are probably for down the line.
Hastings is doing 30% off used and there is a ton of good stuff at my local one. So that is my RSD priority.

Last year it was time that kept me from this, now it's money. I too may never be able to enjoy one of these days. Of course I don't collect viny either so maybe I'm not missing much.

Boy, what a bunch of "fans" we all turned out to be.

Well usually I buy used CD's, so they rarely get any support from me anyway

Everytime I spend $50-60 at my usual CD haunt (independently owned) or order from Amazon marketplace, I'm supporting independent sellers. It just happens to be the one day devoted to it that I can't make it.

No need to get anyone's undies in a knot over it. We all know we do our part. Just thought it was funny is all.

It's like Homer Simpson once said: "I used to rock and roll all nite and party ev-a-ree day. Then it was every OTHER day. Now I'm lucky to get an hour a week in which to get funky."

"Record Store Day" is not JUST for LP fans, it's supposed to help support our dying independent music stores.
Get off your lazy asses, stop into a store and buy something.
